The ability to work and live with small groups of people is thus essential.<br \/>\n<strong>Requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>BSc Degree in natural sciences or National Weather Observer\u2019s Certificate (with work experience)<\/li>\n<li>Candidates must be willing to work shifts (both day and night) and on public holidays, and in possible adverse weather conditions<\/li>\n<li>Candidates must be punctual, dedicated, precise and able to work both in a team and independently<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Duties:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assist and actively participate in the running of the surface meteorological and atmospheric research project assigned by the Marine Unit of the SAWS.<\/li>\n<li>Perform surface meteorological observations, conduct upper-air weather balloon releases and maintain and verify all equipment.<\/li>\n<li>Conduct all work in strict accordance with the rules, regulations, and standards as set out by the SAWS.<\/li>\n<li>Assist with administrative duties including quality controlling of data and report writing as required by the Senior Meteorological Technician.<\/li>\n<li>Assist with logistical duties associated with the running of the remote base as part of the overall expedition team, including assisting other expedition members as required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How To Apply<\/strong><br \/>\nAlthough the base is well-equipped with email, fax, and satellite telephone facilities, the applicant should be self-sufficient and self-motivated. The incumbent should be aware of the possible effects of the remote location on his\/her family and close relationships. Candidates should be physically fit, mentally strong and prepared for challenging but satisfying work.<\/p>\n<p>As part of a small expedition team, Meteorological Technicians might often be called upon to work long hours in extreme conditions, on duties unrelated to their primary function. Short-listed candidates will be subject to screening and security vetting to determine their suitability for employment.
