RIA is a cross-cutting Programme that seeks to extend and enhance the use and impact of scientific research and manage the HSRC\u2019s relationships, reputation, and brand. We add value to the core business of the HSRC which is to conduct basic and applied research, inform public debate, and provide evidence-based policy advice.<\/p>\n

RIA consists of the following sections: Science Communication, Implementation Science & Data Analytics, Policy & Research Impact, and Research Communication.<\/p>\n
Specification\u00a0<\/b>
\nFor the Master’s research internship position, we are seeking an applicant with interests in science communication research and in following a transdisciplinary approach to research. The internship experience is intensive and is suited for self-driven emerging scholars who are able to work as part of larger teams.<\/p>\n
The appointed intern will be provided with pertinent training and will gain research experience whilst completing their Master\u2019s degree.<\/p>\n
Key Responsibilities:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n
In addition to completing their degrees, the research intern is required to participate in all aspects of the research process as he\/she work on research projects. Among other duties, he\/she will participate in the following activities under supervision:<\/p>\n
\u2022The conceptualization of projects;
\n\u2022The formulation of research questions and writing of funding proposals;
\n\u2022The submission of research proposals for ethical review;
\n\u2022Implementation of research projects and policy dialogues;
\n\u2022Collection and analysis of data;
\n\u2022Write-up of research findings including research reports, conference presentations, policy briefs, and manuscripts for journal publication;
\n\u2022Assist with project management and administration.<\/p>\n
Requirements
\nKey Requirements:<\/p>\n
\u2022Applicants for the Master’s internship must have graduated with a B-degree degree and be eligible to register or have recently registered for a Masters in the Social Sciences and Humanities;
\n\u2022Candidates must have an interest in practices and research that seeks to enhance the use and impact of scientific research;
\n\u2022Computer literacy including MS Office and appropriate statistical packages;
\n\u2022Good planning and organisational skills, including the ability to working well under pressure;
\n\u2022Good communication skills (verbal as well as report writing);
\n\u2022A sound conceptual grounding in a discipline and in qualitative or quantitative research methods;
\n\u2022Applicants must be South African citizens or citizens of another African country and already registered at a South African tertiary institution.
\n\u2022The ability to speak or an interest in learning either Kiswahili or Portuguese will be an additional recommendation for appointment.<\/p>\n
