{"id":40928,"date":"2018-06-18T11:17:30","date_gmt":"2018-06-18T09:17:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/joblistsouthafrica.com\/?p=40928"},"modified":"2018-06-18T11:17:30","modified_gmt":"2018-06-18T09:17:30","slug":"studies-poverty-inequality-institute-new-position","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/joblistsouthafrica.com\/studies-poverty-inequality-institute-new-position.html","title":{"rendered":"Studies in Poverty and Inequality Institute New Position"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Studies in Poverty and Inequality Institute (SPII) is a nonprofit research and advocacy think tank committed to advancing the Constitution and the eradication of poverty and inequality in South Africa and the sub-region.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title: Researcher<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Job Location:\u00a0<\/strong>Johannesburg<br \/>\n<strong>Salary:<\/strong> R320 000 to R360 000\u00a0total cost to company, depending on qualifications and experience<br \/>\n<strong>Start date:<\/strong> 01 August 2018 (or sooner if possible)<\/p>\n<p>This is a full time fixed term contract of 12 months.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the position is to work across a number of our key projects, all of which are aligned to our focus on the reduction of poverty and inequality in South Africa through the realisation of the transformative socio-economic rights in the Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>Responsibilities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work with the Director, work with popularising socio-economic rights already undertaken by SPII<\/li>\n<li>Work closely with the Director to define SPII\u2019s work on supporting civil society government budget analysis coordination and training<\/li>\n<li>Manage research interns as required from time to time<\/li>\n<li>Engage in networking and profile raising of SPII by participating in relevant workshops, conferences and stakeholder meetings.<\/li>\n<li>Develop funding proposals and other reports as requested by management<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Requirements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Masters degree in human rights\/constitutional law, politics, economics, development or related field<\/li>\n<li>Minimum of three years\u2019 work experience in one or more of the above fields, with good references<\/li>\n<li>Understanding of human rights law and the role of the Constitution in South\u00a0African democracy,\u00a0particularly in relation to socio-economic rights<\/li>\n<li>Motivated to work independently and as a member of a small team<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated ability to use initiative and take a proactive approach to work<\/li>\n<li>Communication skills, confidence to speak in public and with stakeholders<\/li>\n<li>Commitment to the values of SPII and a passion for social justice<\/li>\n<li>Exceptional English writing skills are essential<\/li>\n<li>Ability to communicate in at least one other South African language is an advantage<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To apply, submit a short CV, two examples of research writing and a motivational letter to <strong>fortunate@spii.org.za<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SPII is committed to Employment Equity and will give preference to historically disadvantaged South African applicants.<\/p>\n<p>Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview.
