Equal Education is a movement of learners, parents, teachers and community members working for quality and equality in South African education, through analysis and activism. Equal Education is organised in five provinces: Eastern Cape, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, and the Western Cape. Equal Education works by identifying systemic and localised problems affecting the quality of education, and addresses these problems through local and national campaign; a commitment to robust political education and campaign strategising with members; and building a strong research base through primary and secondary research.<\/p>\n
Equal Education seeks to fill four exciting vacancies.\u00a0The successful candidates must have a strong commitment to democracy, equality, intersectionality, social justice and human rights.<\/p>\n
Job Title: Head of Gauteng<\/strong> The Equal Education (EE) Gauteng branch has won major victories in its campaign to ensure the provision of adequate sanitation facilities. Gauteng is a critical site of struggle with proximity to the Department of Basic Education. Members are organised primarily in the East Rand, with a growing presence in Soweto.<\/p>\n The Head of Gauteng is tasked with leading a team of staff and volunteers on campaign strategy, youth leadership development, political education, media engagement, as well as the management of finances and human resources matters.<\/p>\n The successful candidate is an activist and organiser who demonstrates the ability to lead EE in Gauteng, exploring synergies with partner organisations across the province.<\/p>\n Key responsibilities of this role include:<\/strong><\/p>\n Requirements for the role:<\/strong><\/p>\n The position is based in EE\u2019s Gauteng office in the Johannesburg CBD. However, extensive time is spent with EE members in the East Rand and in Soweto.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Job Title: Head of National Organising<\/strong> The Head of National Organising reports to EE\u2019s General Secretary, and is responsible for leading EE\u2019s work in KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo. National Organising has made enormous strides in its campaigns to ensure the provision of scholar transport to schools in KwaZulu-Natal (and South Africa), and continues to fight for the provision of water and decent toilets to Limpopo schools.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n The Head of National Organising leads a team of staff and volunteers on campaign strategy, youth leadership development, political education, media engagement, as well as management of finances and human resources matters.<\/p>\n The successful candidate is an activist and organiser who demonstrates the ability to support the growth of EE in both KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo.<\/p>\n Key responsibilities of this role include:<\/strong><\/p>\n Requirements for the role:<\/strong><\/p>\n The position is based in EE\u2019s Gauteng office in the Johannesburg CBD, however extensive time will be spent in KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Job Title: Deputy Head Western Cape<\/strong> Since being founded in Khayelitsha in 2008, Equal Education (EE) has grown extensively across the Cape Flats and into the southern suburbs. This branch of EE is currently focused on fighting for schools and school communities to be provided with the necessary resources and support to ensure the safety of learners and teachers.<\/p>\n The Deputy Head of the Western Cape supports the Head of the Western Cape in leading a team of staff and volunteers on campaign strategy, youth leadership development, political education, media engagement, as well as management of finances and human resources matters.<\/p>\n The successful candidate is an activist and organiser who demonstrates the ability to strengthen EE in the Western Cape.<\/p>\n Key responsibilities of this role include:<\/strong><\/p>\n Requirements for the role:<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Job Title: Communications Officer<\/strong> The Communications Officer is involved in all aspects of the development, implementation and evaluation of EE\u2019s internal and external communication strategies and activities.<\/p>\n Key responsibilities of this role include:<\/strong><\/p>\n Essential:<\/strong><\/p>\n Advantageous:<\/strong><\/p>\n Application Process:<\/strong><\/p>\n Each application should include a CV and a letter of motivation.
