Equal Education is organised in five provinces: Eastern Cape, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, and the Western Cape. Equal Education works by identifying systemic and localised problems affecting the quality of education, and addresses these problems through local and national campaign; a commitment to robust political education and campaign strategising with members; and building a strong research base through primary and secondary research.<\/p>\n<p>Equal Education seeks to fill four exciting vacancies.\u00a0The successful candidates must have a strong commitment to democracy, equality, intersectionality, social justice and human rights.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title: Head of Gauteng<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Job Location:\u00a0<\/strong> Johannesburg CBD<\/p>\n<p>The Equal Education (EE) Gauteng branch has won major victories in its campaign to ensure the provision of adequate sanitation facilities. Gauteng is a critical site of struggle with proximity to the Department of Basic Education. Members are organised primarily in the East Rand, with a growing presence in Soweto.<\/p>\n<p>The Head of Gauteng is tasked with leading a team of staff and volunteers on campaign strategy, youth leadership development, political education, media engagement, as well as the management of finances and human resources matters.<\/p>\n<p>The successful candidate is an activist and organiser who demonstrates the ability to lead EE in Gauteng, exploring synergies with partner organisations across the province.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key responsibilities of this role include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Developing campaign strategies with EE Gauteng members, from the identification of problems, to data collection, and mobilisation<\/li>\n<li>Managing and developing the staff and volunteers of the Gauteng office<\/li>\n<li>Coordinating and running Youth Group meetings for EE members, \u00a0and mass meetings of EE members<\/li>\n<li>Organising and running trainings and political education seminars and camps for EE members<\/li>\n<li>Contributing to and supporting research work<\/li>\n<li>Representing EE publicly through engaging stakeholders, academics, government and media<\/li>\n<li>Budget planning and monitoring<\/li>\n<li>Implementing the EE Policies and Procedures<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Requirements for the role:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tertiary qualification in Social Sciences, Law, Community Organising or related field<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of South African education policy<\/li>\n<li>Understanding of politics, law, government policy and civil society<\/li>\n<li>Experience in planning, coordinating and evaluating activities, projects and informal educational programmes<\/li>\n<li>A strong background in youth organising in the civil society sector, and demonstrated success in campaign advocacy work will be advantageous<\/li>\n<li>Must be independent, driven, a self-starter, and enjoy working with young people<\/li>\n<li>Ability to lead and mentor<\/li>\n<li>Willingness to work extended hours, including weekends and public holidays when necessary<\/li>\n<li>Excellent spoken and written communication skills<\/li>\n<li>Fully computer literate<\/li>\n<li>Adept at using social media<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The position is based in EE\u2019s Gauteng office in the Johannesburg CBD. However, extensive time is spent with EE members in the East Rand and in Soweto.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title: Head of National Organising<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Job Location:\u00a0<\/strong>Gauteng<\/p>\n<p>The Head of National Organising reports to EE\u2019s General Secretary, and is responsible for leading EE\u2019s work in KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo. National Organising has made enormous strides in its campaigns to ensure the provision of scholar transport to schools in KwaZulu-Natal (and South Africa), and continues to fight for the provision of water and decent toilets to Limpopo schools<strong>.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Head of National Organising leads a team of staff and volunteers on campaign strategy, youth leadership development, political education, media engagement, as well as management of finances and human resources matters.<\/p>\n<p>The successful candidate is an activist and organiser who demonstrates the ability to support the growth of EE in both KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key responsibilities of this role include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Developing campaign strategies with members in KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo<\/li>\n<li>Supporting and contributing to campaigns-related research<\/li>\n<li>Monitoring and evaluating campaign impact in both provinces<\/li>\n<li>Recruiting, training and supervising EE organisers and volunteers in KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo<\/li>\n<li>Providing the support needed by organisers and volunteers to fulfil their roles (this includes the creating of content for youth group, as well as conducting research for school-based and provincial campaigns)<\/li>\n<li>Establishing relationships with crucial stakeholders (schools, partner organisations, etc)<\/li>\n<li>Maintaining a membership database<\/li>\n<li>Representing EE publicly through engaging stakeholders including academics, government and media<\/li>\n<li>Budget planning and monitoring<\/li>\n<li>Implementing the EE Policies and Procedures<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Requirements for the role:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tertiary qualification in Social Sciences, Law, Community Organising or related field<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of South African education policy<\/li>\n<li>Ability to take initiative, work independently and think laterally<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor<\/li>\n<li>Understanding of politics, law, government policy and civil society<\/li>\n<li>Experience in planning, coordinating and evaluating activities, projects and informal educational programmes<\/li>\n<li>A strong background in youth organising in the civil society sector, and demonstrated success in campaign advocacy work will be advantageous<\/li>\n<li>Willingness to regularly travel between provinces<\/li>\n<li>Willingness to work extended hours, including weekends and public holidays when necessary<\/li>\n<li>Excellent spoken and written communication skills<\/li>\n<li>Fully computer literate<\/li>\n<li>Adept at using social media<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The position is based in EE\u2019s Gauteng office in the Johannesburg CBD, however extensive time will be spent in KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title: Deputy Head Western Cape<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Job Location:\u00a0<\/strong>Western Cape<\/p>\n<p>Since being founded in Khayelitsha in 2008, Equal Education (EE) has grown extensively across the Cape Flats and into the southern suburbs.
