Equal Education is organised in five provinces: Eastern Cape, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, and the Western Cape. Equal Education works by identifying systemic and localised problems affecting the quality of education, and addresses these problems through local and national campaigns; a commitment to robust political education and campaign strategising with members; and building a strong research base through primary and secondary research.<\/p>\n<p>Equal Education seeks to fill another exciting vacancy within the Internal Education and Training Unit (IETU).\u00a0The successful candidates must have a strong commitment to democracy, equality, intersectionality, social justice and human rights.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title: Curriculum Developer<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Job Location:\u00a0<\/strong>Cape Town<\/p>\n<p>The Curriculum Developer plays a vital role in the development of core curriculum to advance EE\u2019s post-school youth work. The Curriculum Developer is also tasked with developing content and running regular political schools and seminars to strengthen young social justice activists. This also includes supporting provinces that EE is organized in; develop new content to advance campaigns and activist education.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key responsibilities of this role include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Writing and implementing a development curriculum for Equal Education\u2019s post-school youth members to equip them to facilitate learning<\/li>\n<li>Assisting with developing a core curriculum for young social justice activists<\/li>\n<li>Assisting in content development and running of regular political schools and seminars<\/li>\n<li>Creating a database of videos and documentaries<\/li>\n<li>Writing activities and developing workshops<\/li>\n<li>Support other Materials Developers with editing written activities<\/li>\n<li>Developing new content as required by provinces to support campaigns and activist education<\/li>\n<li>Produce user guides and materials<\/li>\n<li>Update and digitise existing activities<\/li>\n<li>Provide support and training to facilitators<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Requirements for the role:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Undergraduate degree in Politics, Philosophy, Community Development or equivalent.<\/li>\n<li>Post graduate degree advantageous.<\/li>\n<li>Some understanding of emancipatory theories and ideas<\/li>\n<li>Active role model<\/li>\n<li>Understanding of politics, law, government policy and civil society will be advantageous<\/li>\n<li>Show an interest in participating and contributing in discussions around gender \/intersectionality<\/li>\n<li>A strong commitment to democracy, equality, social justice and human rights<\/li>\n<li>A strong commitment to building communities<\/li>\n<li>A vested interest in working and developing youth<\/li>\n<li>A commitment to strengthening the education system in South Africa and to investing time and energy to break the inequality that youth face everyday<\/li>\n<li>Experience in organising communities and movement building<\/li>\n<li>Experience in working on popular education<\/li>\n<li>Experience in planning, coordinating and evaluating activities, projects and informal educational programmes<\/li>\n<li>Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to lead and mentor young people<\/li>\n<li>Must be independent, driven and a self-starter<\/li>\n<li>Additional South African language skills are highly valued<\/li>\n<li>Writing and editing skills<\/li>\n<li>Excellent written and spoken communication skills<\/li>\n<li>Fully computer literate<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The position is based in EE\u2019s Khayelitsha office in Cape Town.
