Sophiatown CPS offers a range of counselling and other psycho-social support services, with a particular focus on children and families whose emotional well-being has been impacted by HIV\/AIDS and bereavement; forced displacement and war; violence in the home and the community; extreme poverty; the burden of care; and other forms of economic and social marginalization. Sophiatown CPS is committed to supporting carers and\u00a0leaders in the wider network of NPOs, in the interest of promoting a value- and ethics-driven community of practice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title: Social Worker<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Job Location:\u00a0<\/strong>Johannesburg<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the position is\u00a0to render counselling and other psycho-social support services to individuals, families and groups at its Bertrams office, which serves primarily inner-city refugee and migrant communities.<\/p>\n<p>Responsibilities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Individual, couple, family and group counselling<\/li>\n<li>Liaise with statutory agencies around the protection and care of children and other vulnerable clients<\/li>\n<li>Active collaboration with other service providers to ensure that clients get the most comprehensive service possible<\/li>\n<li>Coordinate\u00a0therapeutic programs and administrative functions of the Centre<\/li>\n<li>Supervise and care for volunteers and junior team members<\/li>\n<li>Active contribution to advocacy processes with regards to systemic human rights violations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Requirements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A minimum of three to four years\u2019 experience in an organisation with a similar focus on the emotional well-being of individuals, families and communities<\/li>\n<li>Proven experience in therapeutic work with individuals and families<\/li>\n<li>Proven experience in group therapy with children, adolescents and adults<\/li>\n<li>Genuine commitment to team work and the collective effort to bring about change<\/li>\n<li>Proven administrative skills<\/li>\n<li>Proven writing skills as evidenced in the capacity to produce meaningful reports<\/li>\n<li>Ability to thrive in resource deprived settings;<\/li>\n<li>The capacity for critical self-reflection and meaningful self-care<\/li>\n<li>Willingness to engage deeply with narratives of trauma and their social, political and economic contexts<\/li>\n<li>A genuine commitment to upholding\u00a0human rights and the ethics of the profession and the organization<\/li>\n<li>Fluency in at least three South African languages<\/li>\n<li>Registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions<\/li>\n<li>Valid driver&#8217;s license<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To apply, submit a CV to<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"mailto:johanna@sophiatowncounselling.co.za\"><strong>johanna@sophiatowncounselling.co.za<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Note that only shortlisted applicants will\u00a0be contacted.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Application Deadline:\u00a0<\/strong>16th November 2018<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sophiatown Community Psychological Services\u00a0is a community mental health service targeting vulnerable population groups in the inner city of Johannesburg, as well as in and around Soweto.
