The organisaiton uses research, advocacy and the law to hold people and institutions who abuse power to account.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title:\u00a0Two Legal Researchers\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Job Location:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Salt River, Cape Town<br \/>\n<strong>Start date:<\/strong> January 2019<br \/>\n<strong>Duration:<\/strong> One-year contract (with prospects for renewal)<\/p>\n<p>Responsibilities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work closely with a team of investigators undertaking research on historic and contemporary economic crime and related human rights violations in Southern Africa<\/li>\n<li>Undertake legal research, legal drafting and assist in formulating our legal strategy<\/li>\n<li>Work closely with civil society partners to hold parties implicated in corruption from apartheid to contemporary state capture to account -This includes the People\u2019s Tribunal on Economic Crime, strategic litigation and the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State Capture<\/li>\n<li>Liaise with lawyers and counsel on cases<\/li>\n<li>Assist in advocacy and media in support of our work.<\/li>\n<li>Write reports as well as related occasional articles for the website and social media platforms<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Requirements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Qualified attorney and\/or someone with a postgraduate qualification in Law &#8211; Candidates with a relevant Master\u2019s degree would be preferred<\/li>\n<li>Work ethic, integrity and a commitment to social justice<\/li>\n<li>Team player, with an inquisitive mind, who values collaboration<\/li>\n<li>Two or three years\u2019 work experience, preferably including in the social justice sector<\/li>\n<li>Research and writing skills<\/li>\n<li>Organisational skills<\/li>\n<li>Computer Literacy: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To apply, submit a CV, copy of relevant qualifications, a copy of an unedited written work and contact details of at least three referees to\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:jobs@opensecrets.org.za\"><strong>jobs@opensecrets.org.za<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Historically disadvantaged applicants are encouraged to apply.<\/p>\n<p>This is envisaged as a full-time position.<\/p>\n<p>Kindly note that applications missing any of the required information will not be considered.<\/p>\n<p>Only shortlisted candidates will be notified of the outcome of the application process.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Application Deadline:\u00a0<\/strong>26th November, 2018<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Open Secrets is a nonprofit organisation working on issues of economic crime and the link to human rights with a focus on the financial sector in Southern Africa.
