The organization uses research, advocacy and the law to hold people and institutions who abuse power to account.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title: Two Interns\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Job Location:\u00a0<\/strong>Salt River, Cape Town<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A legal intern dedicated primarily to legal research support.<\/li>\n<li>An advocacy and communications intern dedicated primarily to advocacy, media and communications support.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Start date:<\/strong> January 2019<\/p>\n<p><strong>Duration:<\/strong> Nine-month contract period<\/p>\n<p><strong>Salary:<\/strong> R9,500.00 per month<\/p>\n<p>Responsibilities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Undertake research on historic and contemporary economic crime in South Africa<\/li>\n<li>Read, summarise and archive research material<\/li>\n<li>Write reports and related occasional articles for our website and social media platforms<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Legal intern<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assist research team in researching law<\/li>\n<li>Develop litigation strategy<\/li>\n<li>Draft letters, pleadings and other documents on the People\u2019s Tribunal on Economic Crime and other case work<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Advocacy and communications intern<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assist in managing advocacy and media (including social media) around Open Secrets\u2019 investigations and litigation<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate with partners in civil society<\/li>\n<li>General administrative and logistical support<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Requirements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students in a related field (law, politics, history, economics, journalism, communications etc.) are preferable<\/li>\n<li>Work ethic, integrity and a commitment to social justice<\/li>\n<li>Team player, with an inquisitive mind, who values collaboration<\/li>\n<li>Research, writing and organisational skills<\/li>\n<li>Computer Literacy: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To apply, submit a CV, copy of relevant qualifications, a copy of an unedited written work and contact details of at least two referees to<strong>\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:jobs@opensecrets.org.za\">jobs@opensecrets.org.za<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Historically disadvantaged applicants are encouraged to apply.<\/p>\n<p>This is envisaged as a full-time position.<\/p>\n<p>Only shortlisted candidates will be notified of the outcome of the application process.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Application Deadline:\u00a0<\/strong>26th November, 2018<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Open Secrets is a nonprofit organisation working on issues of economic crime and the link to human rights with a focus on the financial sector in Southern Africa.
