This position will work across a number of our key projects, including our budget analysis and advocacy work, all of which are aligned to our focus on the reduction of poverty and inequality in South Africa, through the realisation of the transformative socio-economic rights in the Constitution.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title: Internship<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Job Location:\u00a0<\/strong>Johannesburg<br \/>\n<strong>Stipend:<\/strong> R6000 per month<br \/>\n<strong>Start date:<\/strong> Monday 7 January 2019<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Undertake primary and secondary research and assist with project implementation, as required.<\/li>\n<li>Work closely with the Director and\/or Researcher\/s to assist with the implementation of SPII\u2019s work on supporting civil society organisations\u2019 (CSOs) engagements with budget advocacy in South Africa.<\/li>\n<li>Assist with the implementation of budget training and budget advocacy support work for civil society organisations (CSOs).<\/li>\n<li>Work closely with the Director and\/or Researcher\/s to support the socio-economic rights work already undertaken by SPII.<\/li>\n<li>Engage in media and publicity work for SPII, as required.<\/li>\n<li>Engage in research writing, as necessary.<\/li>\n<li>Assist with the development of funding proposals and with compiling project reports, as requested.<\/li>\n<li>Engage in networking and the profile raising of SPII by participating in relevant workshops, conferences and stakeholder meetings.<\/li>\n<li>Provide ad hoc assistance to the general work of SPII, as required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Requirements<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Commitment to the values of SPII and a passion for social justice.<\/li>\n<li>A degree in human rights\/constitutional law, politics, economics, development, or a related field.<\/li>\n<li>Work experience in one or more of the above fields, with good references, is an advantage.<\/li>\n<li>Candidates with experience and\/or interest in human rights policy analysis and\/or human rights budget analysis are particularly encouraged to apply.<\/li>\n<li>Experience in working with budget analysis of National\/Provincial budgets is an advantage.<\/li>\n<li>An interest in human rights law and\/or the role of the Constitution in the South African democracy, particularly in relation to socio-economic rights.<\/li>\n<li>Motivated to work independently and as a member of a small team, and a demonstrated ability to use initiative and to take a proactive approach to work.<\/li>\n<li>Communication skills: confidence to speak in public and with stakeholders.<\/li>\n<li>Good English writing skills are essential.
