Tekano\u2019s purpose is to build the capacity of visionary, values-based, change-makers to advocate for health equity in South Africa. This will be delivered through a team of individuals sharing two critical traits:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Individuals who are committed to human rights, evidenced by sustained involvement in activities which have challenged unfair health, social, economic and political structures and arrangements<\/li>\n<li>Individuals who want to continually expand their capacity to create the results they truly desire in an environment driven by continuous collaborative learning and improvement at\u00a0<em>all<\/em>\u00a0levels in the organisation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Job Title:\u00a0The Senior Programme Officer: Concepts and Context\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Job Location:\u00a0<\/strong>Cape Town<\/p>\n<p>The Senior Programme Officer: Concepts and Context\u00a0contributes to the success of the Organisation by designing and delivering Fellows and Alumni programme content. Providing process facilitation during each module; facilitation of cross-cutting program learning activities and material on context, concepts and thematic content, including advocacy. Works closely and collaborate with the programmes and hub teams.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor\u2019s or equivalent degree with research, writing and training experience<\/li>\n<li>Masters or higher qualification in a related field\u00a0(for example: public health; anthropology; political sociology) would be preferred<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Experience Required:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>7 \u2013 10 Years demonstrated experience in analyzing root causes of inequity and to communicating and engaging with diverse audiences on ways of analyzing inequitable distribution of resources and options for addressing this<\/li>\n<li>The ability to analyse and conduct adult capacity development on questions of globalization, economic, political and social drivers of health inequality<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated ability to analyse public policy proposals in relation to current evidence and implications for equity<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated ability to evaluate research findings, extract evidence and use data and stories to shape advocacy messages<\/li>\n<li>Experience and comfort in collaborating with communities and constituencies of people affected by health and other inequities<\/li>\n<li>Experience in social justice advocacy initiatives to change policy or programmes and political will<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Key Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Fellowship and Alumni Programme Development<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work as part of the Fellowship Programme development team to conceptualise and curate the cross- cutting theme:\u00a0<em>\u2018CONCEPTUAL and CONTEXT<\/em><em>\u00a0capacities to strengthen Fellows\u2019 and Alumni\u2019s understanding of the social context and political economy of\u00a0<\/em><em>health\u2019<\/em>\u00a0in relation to programme objectives<\/li>\n<li>Design and deliver materials, sessions and learning activities to build \u201c<em>Conceptual<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>CONTEXT<\/em>\u201d capacities into the site-specific, experience-specific modules, e-Learning and other between-module activities in the fellows programme, in line with programme pedagogy and methodologies<\/li>\n<li>Provide process facilitation during each learning module<\/li>\n<li>develop and implement \u2018CONCEPTUAL and CONTEXT capacities\u2019 development in the ongoing Alumni programme of learning, including internet-based fora for information sharing and action<\/li>\n<li>Provide fellows and alumni with support in applying conceptual skills in their advocacy projects<\/li>\n<li>Facilitate the involvement of partners in the design and delivery of content, methods and case studies pertaining to the cross-cutting theme of the fellowship programme: \u2018CONCEPTUAL and CONTEXT capacities to strengthen Fellows\u2019 and Alumni\u2019s understanding of the social context and political economy of health\u2019.<\/li>\n<li>Conduct programme related research and input to the fellowship and alumni programmes with respect to leadership and social determinants of health<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Stakeholder Engagement and movement building<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work in collaboration with the Hub Director in building stakeholder engagements, partnerships and the catalytic community<\/li>\n<li>Build collaborative learning partnerships to support the design and delivery of content and case studies pertaining to the cross-cutting theme \u2018CONCEPTUAL capacities to strengthen Fellows\u2019 and Alumni\u2019s understanding of the social context and political economy of health\u2019<\/li>\n<li>Build conceptual clarity within Tekano as an organization and in the fellows programme on the wider social political, cultural and historical understanding of inequity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Key Competencies:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A deep and strong understanding of the social, political and economic systems that drive inequity and its relationship to health and inequality<\/li>\n<li>Self-motivated with high energy levels<\/li>\n<li>Strong organisational skills<\/li>\n<li>Strong process facilitation skills<\/li>\n<li>Motivator with strong coaching or counselling or related personal development expertise<\/li>\n<li>Ability to facilitate courageous conversations with individuals, small groups and the cohort on issues of power and privilege, respect and inclusivity<\/li>\n<li>Strong interpersonal relationship and cross-cultural communication skills<\/li>\n<li>Results driven with a focus on continuous improvement<\/li>\n<li>Superb writing skills and the ability to assemble, distil and analyse all necessary information for decision making and presentations<\/li>\n<li>A deep understanding of the root causes of inequity especially race, class and gender<\/li>\n<li>Comfortable with diversity and respectful of a wide range of faiths, beliefs and experiences<\/li>\n<li>The ability to, in an environment of cultural diversity, build and sustain a culture that enables critical reflection, transparency, dignity, mutual recognition and support<\/li>\n<li>Proficiency in electronic communications and standard office software<\/li>\n<li>Fluent in written and spoken English.
