The Programme also promotes the rights of LGBTI people by engaging in advocacy at local and national level aimed at transforming legislation, policies and practices of various state institutions and civil society organisations.<\/p>\n<p>Our approach in the RAP Programme is informed by principles of participatory research with a focus on skills- and capacity-building of LGBTI community activists and organisations. Working within such a framework facilitates the creation of knowledge that is owned and controlled by LGBTI persons and ultimately increases the depth and reach of community-led advocacy based on the research findings.<\/p>\n<p>The RAP manager is charged with the smooth running of the programme as well as ensuring that the organisation\u2019s broad research, advocacy and policy goals are monitored and implemented.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Roles and Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Set and influence or input into the strategic direction for the RAP programme area.<\/li>\n<li>Lead and direct the activities of the RAP team.<\/li>\n<li>Set clear operational objectives and deliverables for the area and individual team members.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure that deliverables are captured in operational and individual work plans for the area.<\/li>\n<li>Implement and lead the performance management process.<\/li>\n<li>Manage and report on individual and team performance.<\/li>\n<li>Manage the development of needs within the RAP programme are and for the Individual Development Plans.<\/li>\n<li>Provide coaching and mentorship to the team, encouraging step-out performance and innovative ideas.<\/li>\n<li>Manage and direct the activities of non-health volunteers and interns assigned to the organisation.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure that the necessary resources and information are available to ensure the efficient functioning of the programme area.<\/li>\n<li>Compile, manage and report on the RAP programme area budget.<\/li>\n<li>Holds the authority to sign off on all programme area spend within the budget.<\/li>\n<li>Liaise with the Financial Administrator on all financial matters affected by and impacting the RAP team.<\/li>\n<li>Support the formulation of funder proposals.<\/li>\n<li>Support the liaising with funders on programme specific matters.<\/li>\n<li>Responsible for compiling monthly and quarterly reports to the Director, funders and the Board.<\/li>\n<li>Review, monitor and evaluate the impact of programme area initiatives with the aim of improving service delivery.<\/li>\n<li>Support the initiatives and delivery of other programme areas.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure and influence integrated working relationships across all functional teams.<\/li>\n<li>Manage and direct the activities of volunteers and intern assigned to the RAP programme area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Programme area specific responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Design and implement research and advocacy programmes, with a focus on hate crimes and sexual orientation- and gender-based violence.<\/li>\n<li>Commission, lead and\/or conduct research that supports Triangle Project&#8217;s advocacy strategy and which feeds back into service provision.<\/li>\n<li>Develop research and policy briefs, research reports, policy and legislation submissions and opinion pieces for local and national news publications, and develop related information, education and communication (IEC) material.<\/li>\n<li>Partner with other networks and coalitions to ensure that the needs and rights of LGBTI persons are integrated and addressed<\/li>\n<li>Respond to discrimination and promote the rights and responsibilities of LGBTI persons more broadly<\/li>\n<li>Manage staff in the RAP Programme, participate in Management Committee meetings and processes and report to the Director on work conducted in the Programme.<\/li>\n<li>With the Management Committee, play an active role in agenda setting, strategic discussions, organisational development and other planning for the organisation as a whole.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Educated to degree level<\/li>\n<li>Experience in qualitative research methodologies.<\/li>\n<li>At least 3 years\u2019 experience in working at an advocacy level around human rights and particularly around sexual and gender rights.<\/li>\n<li>Clear understanding of gender, sexual diversity, HIV and AIDS and LGBTIQ issues.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to engage with, and influence, diverse stakeholders including government departments<\/li>\n<li>Proven ability to work well under pressure, within a small team environment and meet deadlines.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate understanding of South African legal framework relating to LGBTIQ issues.<\/li>\n<li>Excellent communication skills in English<\/li>\n<li>Excellent writing skills in English<\/li>\n<li>Desirable<\/li>\n<li>Post graduate degree.<\/li>\n<li>Experience in quantitative methodologies.<\/li>\n<li>Writing and communication skills in IsiXhosa or Afrikaans.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Please note<\/strong>: Triangle Project and the selection panel are committed to a
