{"id":44470,"date":"2019-01-28T12:32:20","date_gmt":"2019-01-28T10:32:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/joblistsouthafrica.com\/?p=44470"},"modified":"2019-01-28T12:32:20","modified_gmt":"2019-01-28T10:32:20","slug":"choc-childhood-cancer-foundation-recent-recruitment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/joblistsouthafrica.com\/choc-childhood-cancer-foundation-recent-recruitment.html","title":{"rendered":"CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation Recent Recruitment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation is a nonprofit organisation that provides support for children suffering from cancer and life-threatening blood disorders as well as their families.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title: Social Worker<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Job Location:<\/strong> Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape<br \/>\n<strong>Report to:<\/strong> CHOC Psychosocial support services manager<br \/>\n<strong>Start Date:<\/strong> 01 April 2019<br \/>\n<strong>Salary:<\/strong> R156k-174k per annum with a pension fund and medical aid benefits<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the position is to provide psychosocial support services to children diagnosed with cancer or life threatening blood disorders and their families, serving the Paediatric Haematology and Oncology Unit, P E Provincial Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Responsibilities:<\/p>\n<p>Counselling<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Facilitate the counselling of and support to parents at the time of breaking bad news<\/li>\n<li>Provide individual and \/or group counselling, regarding the diagnosis and treatment, to the patient and family (including siblings) from diagnosis onward<\/li>\n<li>Prepare the patient and\/or parent\/family for medical and treatment procedures<\/li>\n<li>Provide palliative, end-of-life care and support for the patient and family<\/li>\n<li>Provide counselling and\/or crisis intervention at the time of a patient\u2019s death<\/li>\n<li>Provide bereavement support for families<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Additional Service Delivery<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Network and consult with community organisations to enhance service delivery to the children and their families<\/li>\n<li>Assess, prepare and facilitate children who are well enough for the attendance of camps<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Assessments<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Undertake psychosocial assessments of families and plan intervention accordingly, including other disciplines and resources as appropriate<\/li>\n<li>Facilitate statutory investigations as and when required under the Children\u2019s Act no 38 of 2005<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>General and Administration<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Complete and submit the monthly STAT report within the first week of the month<\/li>\n<li>Keep accurate records\/reports of the psychosocial support services and interventions provided<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Personal and Professional Growth<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Attend weekly telephonic supervision with the PSSM<\/li>\n<li>Attend 2 x a year the psychosocial support staff team meetings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ward and Team Meetings<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Attend ward round and team meetings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Educational Interventions<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Liaise with the hospital- and the patient\u2019s home school about the implications of the treatment and eventual reintegration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Volunteers<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assist the volunteer coordinator with the recruitment, selection and supervision of volunteers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Fundraising and Awareness<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assist the region with awareness and fundraising events if and when required<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Support Program<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assist with the planning and the organising of the annual Remembrance Service<\/li>\n<li>Assist with the planning and the organising of the annual ward\/year-end party<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Requirements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A recognised BA Social Work Degree (Honours) with majors in Social Work and Psychology<\/li>\n<li>Up to date proof of registration with the S.A. Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP)<\/li>\n<li>Minimum two years\u2019 experience as a qualified social worker in the child\/youth and\/or health sector with experience in working within a multi-disciplinary team<\/li>\n<li>Computer literacy (MS Office) and good administrative skills<\/li>\n<li>Maturity, high stress tolerance, comfortable working in the field of loss, death and dying, ability to work independently yet as part of a team<\/li>\n<li>Experience of working with children and their families compromised by life threatening illnesses or other life traumas<\/li>\n<li>Fluency in English and Xhosa.
