The goal of Africa Check\u2019s work is to raise the quality of information available to society across the continent. Since 2012 they have fact-checked hundreds of claims on topics from crime and race in South Africa to population numbers in Nigeria and fake health cures in countries around Africa.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title: Info Finder Editor (Part-time)<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Job Location:<\/strong> Johannesburg<\/p>\n<p>The Info Finder Editor will be responsible for developing, managing and editing Africa Check\u2019s new\u00a0<strong>Info Finder tool\u00a0<\/strong>in English, designed to help journalists, civil society researchers and the public to access the most reliable sources of information available on a range of topics in key countries across the continent.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key responsibilities for this position include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Managing the Info Finder database and its ongoing updates, editing the content for accuracy and relevance<\/li>\n<li>Establishing users\u2019 information needs on an on-going basis and responding through Info Finder content<\/li>\n<li>Identifying new experts, and liaising with new and existing experts, and regularly updating the expert database through well-defined community and content management processes<\/li>\n<li>Coordinating the work of a network of volunteer expert contributors to the project<\/li>\n<li>Leading on the ongoing development and improvement of the project, liaising with management, editorial and technical teams, including the French-language Info Finder Editor<\/li>\n<li>Reporting\u00a0 on activities related to the management of the project<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A bachelor\u2019s degree or equivalent qualification<\/li>\n<li>A minimum of 5 years\u2019 editorial experience<\/li>\n<li>An enthusiasm for and understanding of the work of fact-checking and information management<\/li>\n<li>Experience of successfully developing and leading a data-based project; ideally involving some level of liaising with volunteers<\/li>\n<li>Experience or knowledge of online discovery and retrieval systems<\/li>\n<li>Experience and knowledge of digital content management<\/li>\n<li>Editorial expertise \u2013 ideally proofreading and editing expert contributors\u2019 content according to a house style<\/li>\n<li>Ability to analyse problems or information systematically and in depth<\/li>\n<li>Ability to take initiative and responsibility for your work<\/li>\n<li>Project management, problem-solving and organising skills<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of &amp;\/or willingness to learn French an advantage<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Interested candidates should carefully read the requirements below (attention to detail is considered a job requirement) and submit a recent CV together with the names of two referees).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>To Apply:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Submit your application on email:\u00a0<strong><a href=\"mailto:info@africacheck.org\">info@africacheck.org<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>using the following subject line: \u201cApplication for Info Finder Editor position.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Application Deadline:<\/strong> Monday 20 March 2019<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa Check is a non-profit organisation set up in 2012 to promote accuracy in public debate and the media in Africa.
