We are campaigning for a world where human rights are enjoyed by all.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title: Activism Coordinator &#8211; Organizing<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Job Location: <\/strong>Johannesburg<\/p>\n<p><strong>JOB PURPOSE<\/strong>: To develop and implement the Membership &amp; Growth strategy; To recruit, retain and engage members to support AISA\u2019s programme strategies; To develop AISA\u2019s financial sustainability plans and strategies and implement activities to generate funds for AISA; To manage and coordinate activities of members, and to support and liaise with Amnesty International (AI) movement and outside networks to ensure maximum impact of AISA programmes and specific projects<\/p>\n<p><strong>AI SOUTH AFRICA PURPOSE<\/strong>: Amnesty International South Africa (AISA) is a national human rights entity that is part of a global human rights movement, established to address national human rights priorities as well as create the possibility for people in South Africa to join Amnesty International\u2019s global human rights campaigns. Our mission in South Africa is to address pertinent national human rights issues through research and campaigning, and to empower South Africans to take action on issues that matter to them through AI\u2019s international human rights movement; and to leverage South Africa\u2019s influence regionally and globally to promote human rights domestically, bilaterally and internationally.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL PURPOSE:<\/strong>\u00a0We campaign for meaningful human rights change; enable effective human rights activism and work to persuade governments and other actors to uphold universal rights standards.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Reporting to:<\/strong>\u00a0The Executive Director<\/p>\n<p><strong>Posts that this job manages:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This role could from time require management of temporary staff and volunteers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Other key relationships:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Communications, Campaigns and Fundraising<\/li>\n<li>Media and Communications<\/li>\n<li>Programme Team<\/li>\n<li>Supporters and potential supporters<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In collaboration with the Activism Coordinator &#8211; Mobilisation develop and implement programmes to grow activism and mobilisation across South Africa<\/li>\n<li>In partnership with activists, create people powered campaign strategies, plans and activities to ensure strong and active local groups, campus networks, issue networks, youth networks and other activism mechanisms<\/li>\n<li>Mentor, train and develop activist leaders to ensure their development as defenders of human rights<\/li>\n<li>Provide advice and support for activists organising campaign activities and events<\/li>\n<li>Provide advice and support to colleagues across Amnesty International South Africa in designing and implementing strategies and activities to engage activists<\/li>\n<li>Mobilise action groups and supporters on campaigns through the development of and implementation of mass outreach activities in partnership with lead activists and the Activism Coordinator \u2013 Mobilisation.<\/li>\n<li>Work with activists to build relationships with key external stakeholders to advance AISA\u2019s goals including fundraising goals<\/li>\n<li>Advise and support colleagues to develop, implement and evaluate strategies to strengthen the participation of activists across all AISA\u2019s campaigns and activities<\/li>\n<li>Produce and deliver communications as relevant to the role, using a range of channels and technologies<\/li>\n<li>Perform the role to a high standard within agreed timelines, and in line with AI South Africa\u2019s vision<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Other tasks within your skills and competence as required and as requested by the Executive Director.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WHAT DOES SUCCESS LOOK LIKE IN THIS JOB?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>S\/he would have developed and effectively implemented AISA\u2019s Membership &amp; Growth Strategy<\/li>\n<li>Increased and retained AISA\u2019s membership per agreed periodic targets<\/li>\n<li>Effectively applied social media and innovative digital and technological tools to drive membership and engage membership to support AISA\u2019s programmes\u2019 campaigns,<\/li>\n<li>S\/he will have produced, implemented, monitored and evaluated related action plans to agreed deadlines with relevant members of their unit team(s); generated external awareness and activities on AISA\u2019s programmes by mobilizing and supporting the membership, and expanded networks of influence in relation to key concerns and priority areas in the South African strategic plan; and written high quality materials for publication and other outputs<\/li>\n<li>S\/he will have contributed to the effective functioning of the team, and to the implementation of AISA&#8217;s mission, upholding AISA and AI\u2019s values at all times<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Five to seven years of campaigning and public mobilization experience with a strong track record delivering successful national and Pan African campaigns within a campaigns, advocacy or communications environment<\/li>\n<li>Excellent written and verbal English communications skills with the ability to write persuasive material, especially for the web. \u00a0Familiarity with other languages of the AU desirable<\/li>\n<li>Strong experience managing social media channels (principally Facebook and Twitter) for an African audience<\/li>\n<li>Successful experience developing and managing digital campaign content and linking digital and traditional media strategies<\/li>\n<li>Experience using Content Management Systems (especially Word press) to manage digital content<\/li>\n<li>Proven ability to work effectively and sensitively to develop professional relationships with a wide range of NGOs, volunteers, specialists and other partners<br \/>\nStrong project management and event organizing skills, with the ability to manage budgets and contractors<\/li>\n<li>Familiarity with African policy making processes and politics, and an understanding of development issues affecting Africa is desirable<\/li>\n<li>Commitment to AISA\u2019s aims and a clear understanding of the links between policy, lobbying, campaigning and media work and of how policy change can be achieved through effective advocacy<\/li>\n<li>Ability to respond flexibly to opportunities and requests, sometimes with little notice<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment across various times zones<\/li>\n<li>Ability to consistently apply good judgment and make good and responsible decisions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality regarding all aspects of work at all times<\/p>\n<p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor\u2019s degree in Business, Communications, Marketing, International Relations or related field.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Honours or Masters\u2019 Degree a definite advantage<\/p>\n<p><strong>EQUALITY STATEMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Equality and diversity is at the core of our values and staff are expected to<br \/>\nwork collectively and individually to promote a constructive and sensitive approach to others from a variety of backgrounds, where the work of others is valued and respected.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CONFLICT OF INTEREST<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Public or other activity, affiliation to or support for any group or organization, personal association or other factor which may generate a real or perceived conflict of interest with Amnesty International\u2019s principles (specifically independence and impartiality), or raise a security concern, or otherwise prevent the candidate from carrying out key functions of the specific post and would therefore disqualify the candidate from being appointed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>To apply<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Submit a CV to the email address<strong>\u00a0 <a href=\"mailto:james.jairos@amnesty.org.za\">james.jairos@amnesty.org.za<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Application Deadline:\u00a0<\/strong>Friday, 21 June, 2019<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Amnesty International is a global movement of more than 7 million people who take injustice personally.
