Sophiatown CPS offers a range of counselling and other psycho-social support services, with a particular focus on children and families whose emotional well-being has been impacted by HIV\/AIDS and bereavement; forced displacement and war; violence in the home and the community; extreme poverty; the burden of care, and other forms of economic and social marginalization.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title: Counsellor\/Project Coordinator\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Job Location:\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Soweto<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Purpose of the position is to\u00a0be part of the Sophiatown counselling team, run counselling groups for children and youth, and manage an innovative family-based intervention project in Soweto.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Individual and family-based counselling<\/li>\n<li>Facilitation of group-based psycho-social support interventions<\/li>\n<li>Facilitation of therapeutic holiday programmes, parenting workshops, retreats and other community interventions<\/li>\n<li>Coordination of a community project involving HIV\/AIDS affected children and their families<\/li>\n<li>Ongoing professional development<\/li>\n<li>Effective record-keeping, report-writing and other administrative tasks<\/li>\n<li>Design and implementation of basic participatory M and E processes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Grade 12<\/li>\n<li>Fluent in spoken and written English and fluent in at least two other official SA languages<\/li>\n<li>Successful completion of a Counselling Course with a reputable organisation<\/li>\n<li>At least three years\u2019 experience in counselling in a related organisation<\/li>\n<li>A professional, non-judgemental, authentic and empathic approach to all people, and commitment to the ethos of Presence, Solidarity, Integrity and Dignity<\/li>\n<li>Proven experience in running counselling groups with children, as well as with caregivers<\/li>\n<li>Proven experience in community work<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work both independently and in teams<\/li>\n<li>Proven ability to write process notes and reports on work done<\/li>\n<li>Computer skills (MS Word and Outlook)<\/li>\n<li>Emotional resilience and stability<\/li>\n<li>A valid police clearance certificate<\/li>\n<li>Valid Code B driver\u2019s license<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Desirable skills, experience, and knowledge:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Knowledge and experience in diverse settings of psycho-social work particular to South Africa such as trauma, bereavement, displacement, domestic violence, violence and abuse, HIV and AIDS<\/li>\n<li>Training and experience in trauma counselling<\/li>\n<li>Ability to integrate psycho-social theory and practice<\/li>\n<li>Ability to reflect on experience and engage with supervision<\/li>\n<li>Ability to guide, mentor and support other team members<\/li>\n<li>Proven experience in community project management<\/li>\n<li>Ability to build networks of support with partner organisations, schools and other service providers<\/li>\n<li>Initiative and creativity to solve problems in resource deprived settings<\/li>\n<li>A willingness to go beyond the call of duty<\/li>\n<li>Resident in the greater Johannesburg and Soweto area<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>To apply<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please send a motivation letter and a CV, together with three contactable referees to <strong><a href=\"mailto:applications@sophiatowncounselling.co.za\">applications@sophiatowncounselling.co.za<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Application Deadline: <\/strong>Wednesday, 3 July, 2019<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sophiatown Community Psychological Services is a community mental health service targeting vulnerable population groups in the inner city of Johannesburg, and in and around Soweto.
