{"id":48082,"date":"2019-07-15T18:19:09","date_gmt":"2019-07-15T16:19:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/joblistsouthafrica.com\/?p=48082"},"modified":"2019-07-15T18:19:09","modified_gmt":"2019-07-15T16:19:09","slug":"probono-org-current-employment-opportunity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/joblistsouthafrica.com\/probono-org-current-employment-opportunity.html","title":{"rendered":"ProBono.Org Current Employment Opportunity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ProBono.Org is a dynamic NGO that works with the private legal profession to provide pro bono legal services to the poor and contributes to ensuring that the unmet access to justice needs of impoverished people living in South Africa are met.<\/p>\n<p>We work to bring the power of the law to all by building cutting-edge digital tools and fostering collaborations with the nation\u2019s leading civil legal organizations.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title: Temporary Staff Attorney\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Job Location: <\/strong>Cape Town<br \/>\n<strong>Commencing:<\/strong> 1 August 2019 or ASAP<\/p>\n<p>This is a five months contract<\/p>\n<p>Purpose of the position is\u00a0to support and work with the Regional Director to ensure the wellbeing of ProBono.Org in Cape Town.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Coordinate\u00a0projects and displaying strong project management skills<\/li>\n<li>Undertake\u00a0strategic decision making and planning<\/li>\n<li>Manage\u00a0legal interns and Administrative staff<\/li>\n<li>Ensure\u00a0high quality services are offered to clients, and administrative support to pro bono attorneys and advocates<\/li>\n<li>Build\u00a0relationships with the private legal profession and other stakeholders to enhance the delivery of pro bono services<\/li>\n<li>Screen\u00a0clients in accordance with ProBono.Org criteria, researching the merits of cases and preparing memoranda for attorneys and briefs for advocates<\/li>\n<li>Interact, communicate\u00a0and manage\u00a0relationships with legal practitioners<\/li>\n<li>Recruit\u00a0legal practitioners to undertake pro bono work and referring clients to them<\/li>\n<li>Create\u00a0opportunities for legal professionals to undertake pro bono work<\/li>\n<li>Monitor\u00a0the progress and outcome of cases referred to legal practitioners<\/li>\n<li>Set\u00a0up, managing and monitoring legal clinics and special projects<\/li>\n<li>Organise\u00a0seminars, workshops and training<\/li>\n<li>Build\u00a0strong relationships with NGOs and CBOs<\/li>\n<li>Undertake\u00a0legal work for NGOs and CBOs through pro bono lawyers to strengthen such NGOs and CBOs<\/li>\n<li>Write\u00a0reports, success stories and press releases, as part of ProBono.Org\u2019s reporting and communications functions<\/li>\n<li>Facilitate\u00a0the work of Community Advice Offices by linking them with law firms and supporting their work<\/li>\n<li>Promotion of ProBono.Org in various media<\/li>\n<li>Manage\u00a0interns and other staff<\/li>\n<li>Manage and prepare\u00a0budgets, funding applications and reports<\/li>\n<li>Project management and strategic planning abilities, and the ability to coordinate projects<\/li>\n<li>Data management and statistical recording skills<\/li>\n<li>The ability to undertake strategic decision making and planning in collaboration with the Regional Director<\/li>\n<li>Any other task or responsibility is given to you by your manager<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>LLB degree<\/li>\n<li>An admitted attorney with \u00b1 three years relevant post admission experience<\/li>\n<li>A demonstrable commitment to an interest in public interest law and social justice<\/li>\n<li>Communication skills, both written and verbal<\/li>\n<li>Computer literate (Microsoft Office\u00a0(Word, \u00a0Excel and\u00a0PowerPoint)<\/li>\n<li>Currently based in Cape Town<\/li>\n<li>A valid driver\u2019s license and own reliable transport<\/li>\n<li>Well organised with strong administrative skills<\/li>\n<li>Advanced communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
