{"id":48109,"date":"2019-07-16T15:51:02","date_gmt":"2019-07-16T13:51:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/joblistsouthafrica.com\/?p=48109"},"modified":"2019-07-16T15:51:02","modified_gmt":"2019-07-16T13:51:02","slug":"choc-childhood-cancer-foundation-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/joblistsouthafrica.com\/choc-childhood-cancer-foundation-south-africa.html","title":{"rendered":"CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa is a group of people on a mission to make a difference to children with cancer and their families, one paddock at a time.<\/p>\n<p>Armed with the slogan \u201cLove Living Life\u201d, The Organisation uses our lifestyle goals to raise money for CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation SA.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title: Child and Family Support Counsellor to serve Netcare Unitas and Steve Biko Academic Hospital<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Location:<\/strong> Pretoria<\/p>\n<p>Salary in the range of R192\u00a0000 to R216\u00a0000 per annum, CHOC makes contributions towards a pension fund as well as offers a medical aid subsidy.<\/p>\n<p>Purpose of the position is to provide counselling and psychosocial support services to children diagnosed with cancer or life threatening blood disorders and their families.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Counselling:<\/li>\n<li>Facilitate the counselling of and support to parents at the time of breaking bad news<\/li>\n<li>Provide individual and \/or group counselling, regarding the diagnosis and treatment, to the patient and family (including siblings) from diagnosis onward<\/li>\n<li>Prepare the patient and\/or parent\/family for medical and treatment procedures<\/li>\n<li>Provide palliative and end-of-life care and support for the patient and family<\/li>\n<li>Provide counselling and\/or crisis intervention at the time of a patient\u2019s death<\/li>\n<li>Provide bereavement support for families.<\/li>\n<li>Additional Service Delivery:<\/li>\n<li>Network and consult with community organisations to enhance service delivery to the children and their families.<\/li>\n<li>Assess, prepare and facilitate children who are well enough for the attendance of camps.<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Assessments:<\/li>\n<li>Undertake psychosocial assessments of families and plan intervention accordingly, including other disciplines and resources as appropriate<\/li>\n<li>Facilitate statutory investigations as and when required under the Children\u2019s Act no 38 of 2005<\/li>\n<li>General and Administration:<\/li>\n<li>Complete and submit the monthly STAT report within the first week of the month<\/li>\n<li>Keep accurate records\/reports of the psychosocial support services and interventions provided<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Personal and Professional Growth:<\/li>\n<li>Attend weekly telephonic supervision with the PSSM<\/li>\n<li>Attend 2 x a year the psychosocial support staff team meetings<\/li>\n<li>Ward and Team Meetings:<\/li>\n<li>Attend hand-over and ward team meetings<\/li>\n<li>Educational Interventions:<\/li>\n<li>Liaise with the hospital- and the patient\u2019s home school about the implications of the treatment and eventual reintegration<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Ward Volunteers:<\/li>\n<li>Assist the Programme Coordinator with the recruitment, selection and supervision of ward volunteers<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Fundraising and Awareness:<\/li>\n<li>Assist the region with awareness and fundraising events as and when required<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Support Programme:<\/li>\n<li>Assist with the planning and organising of the annual Remembrance Service<\/li>\n<li>Assist with the planning and organising of the annual ward\/year-end party<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A recognised BA Social Work Degree with majors in Social Work (Honours) and Psychology (Third year)<\/li>\n<li>Up to date proof of registration with the S.A. Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP)<\/li>\n<li>Minimum three years\u2019 experience as a qualified social worker in the child\/youth and\/or health sector with experience in working within a multi-disciplinary team<\/li>\n<li>Computer literacy (Microsoft Office) and good administrative skills<\/li>\n<li>Maturity, high stress tolerance, comfortable working in the field of loss, death and dying, ability to work independently yet as part of a team<\/li>\n<li>\u200bExperience of working with children and their families compromised by life-threatening illnesses or other life traumas<\/li>\n<li>Fluency in English, Zulu, Sotho, Tswana and a good understanding of the other African languages spoken in the Northern Region area.
