{"id":49136,"date":"2019-09-18T13:59:42","date_gmt":"2019-09-18T11:59:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/joblistsouthafrica.com\/?p=49136"},"modified":"2019-09-17T15:44:36","modified_gmt":"2019-09-17T13:44:36","slug":"conservation-south-africa-recent-available-employment-opportunity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/joblistsouthafrica.com\/conservation-south-africa-recent-available-employment-opportunity.html","title":{"rendered":"Conservation South Africa Recent Available Employment Opportunity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Conservation South Africa, as a local affiliate of Conservation International, is committed to helping societies adopt a more sustainable approach to development\u2014one that considers and values nature at every turn and improves human well-being through the conservation of healthy ecosystems and the goods and services they provide.<\/p>\n<p>Conservation South Africa seeks to influence policy, develop markets, engage the private sector, and support communities to develop and implement conservation- based economic growth models and long-term human well-being.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title: Stewardship Manager and Community Development Officer<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Location: <\/strong>Matatiele, Eastern Cape<br \/>\n<strong>Employment type:<\/strong>\u00a012-month contract<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of this\u00a0position will be to work closely with the Stewardship Manager and Community Development Officer in the delivery of CSA\u2019s Rangeland portfolio, namely: using Conservation Agreements to enhance rangeland restoration and environmental stewardship in the uMzimvubu Catchment. This position provides for dedicated capacity to plan, negotiate and implement Conservation Agreements with communal farmers, and to capture lessons on efficacy with regards to both social and environmental benefits of this approach.<br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Build and maintain relationship of trust with conservation agreement stewards<\/li>\n<li>Design, negotiate and implement conservation agreements with stewards in the upper and middle catchment<\/li>\n<li>Support stewards to design and implement a plan of work to ensure sustainability of their governance structures<\/li>\n<li>Support stewards to implement sustainable farming activities through regular meetings, training, and reporting<\/li>\n<li>Represent CSA at relevant meetings pertaining to stewardship and restoration<\/li>\n<li>Monitor compliance to conservation agreements using a range of techniques, and adaptively manage challenges relating to non-compliance<\/li>\n<li>Host a lesson learned workshop with stewards annually<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Written and verbal fluency in English and isiXhosa essential, Sotho in additional preferable<\/li>\n<li>Valid driver\u2019s license and minimum one-year driving experience<\/li>\n<li>Understanding of Conservation Agreements<\/li>\n<li>Experience demonstrating rural community engagement<\/li>\n<li>Culturally sensitive and experience working within a Rights Based Approach<\/li>\n<li>Report writing skills<\/li>\n<li>Good presentation, written and verbal communication skills<\/li>\n<li>Experience using MS Excel and MS Word<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse working environment<\/li>\n<li>Understanding of communal farming systems in the Eastern Cape<\/li>\n<li>Preferred:<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of small and large stock<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge and experience of Department of Environmental Affairs Natural Resources Management<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge and experience of the uMzimvubu Catchment Partnership Programme<\/li>\n<li>Proven ability to work effectively across cultures, establish and manage effective collaborations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>To apply <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please submit your cover letter and CV (no longer than 3 pages) with contact details of three referees with a cover letter by 25 September 2019 to<strong>\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:csa-jobs@conservation.org\">csa-jobs@conservation.org<\/a><\/strong>. using the reference EC Stewardship.<\/p>\n<p>Please quote NGO-Pulse on your application.<\/p>\n<p>Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
