ICLEI provides technical services, capacity building, networking opportunities and cutting-edge urban solutions to its member cities and their communities.<\/p>\n<p>ICLEI\u2019s African Head Office, which serves ICLEI\u2019s member cities from across Africa, is based in Cape Town (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.africa.iclei.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">www.africa.iclei.org<\/a>). ICLEI Africa also proudly hosts ICLEI\u2019s global\u00a0Cities Biodiversity Center (CBC)\u00a0which works with cities and partners across the world (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.iclei.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">www.cbc.iclei.org<\/a>).\u00a0 ICLEI Africa invites suitably qualified individuals to apply for the position below, to join our African and CBC teams of dynamic urban sustainability professionals and experts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title:\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Communications Intern<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Location: <\/strong>Cape Town<\/p>\n<p>The successful candidate must have a strong scientific \/ technical background in nature-based solutions, urban planning and development, and biodiversity management within the context of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and other relevant global frameworks, and in working at the city and city-region level.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Proven experience in the following areas is required:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Development, implementation and mainstreaming of biodiversity and nature-based solutions into urban sustainability and development policy, decision-making, strategy and action plans, and land use and spatial planning at subnational (city and regional) government level, \u00a0with specialised skills and experience in one or more of the following fields:<\/li>\n<li>\u200b<strong>nature-based solutions, including green\/blue (ecological) infrastructure and ecosystem-based adaptation<\/strong><strong>;\u00a0<\/strong><strong>ecosystem services assessment; landscape and systems level biodiversity conservation and management; urban nature systems and transitions; sustainable development; and conservation ecology in urban contexts<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Planning, implementation and management of complex, multi-year projects with proven experience of working in, and managing multi-disciplinary project teams, and undertaking applied research<\/li>\n<li>Stakeholder engagement, being able to effectively and creatively communicate technical subjects to diverse audiences; and building and maintaining strategic partnerships<\/li>\n<li>Candidates should demonstrate a keen interest for, and proven experience in, business development and mobilising resources; be delivery and results-orientated; and have a strong city\/local government orientation and focus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Relevant Master\u2019s or PhD degree or equivalent qualification related to one or more of the fields listed above<\/li>\n<li>At least 5 years of relevant work experience preferably within, or closely with, a local or other subnational government in Africa in one or more of the fields listed above, international experience will be an added advantage<\/li>\n<li>Experience with desktop research, data collection and analysis approaches and methodologies<\/li>\n<li>Ability to conceptualise and implement complex, multi-year and multi-stakeholder projects<\/li>\n<li>Ability to produce technical reports, popular articles, promotional and social media material, and to promote, enhance and expand the projects and partnerships he\/she is involved in \u2013 a record of peer reviewed publications will be an added advantage<\/li>\n<li>Innovative individual with a \u2018can do\u2019 attitude who can think on his\/her feet and harness well-established networks to further build ICLEI\u2019s good reputation and networks across sub-Saharan Africa and internationally<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Further Requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in multiple and multi-disciplinary teams in a highly dynamic and creative environment, often engaging directly with high level political leadership, academic and technical experts, the United Nations and other international organisations and the private sector on behalf of ICLEI<\/li>\n<li>Ability to be flexible about work responsibilities and thrive under pressure<\/li>\n<li>Problem-solving and analytical skills, well-organised, attention to detail and quality, and a structured and pro-active working style<\/li>\n<li>Excellent written, presentation and verbal communication skills<\/li>\n<li>Valid code B driving license, with at least one year\u2019s driving experience<\/li>\n<li>South African resident\/valid work or critical skills permit<\/li>\n<li>Must have a passion for, and willingness to, travel extensively, locally and internationally;<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of, and sensitivity to, the African and global geo-political context<\/li>\n<li>Proficiency in another global language, especially French or Portuguese will be a strong added advantage<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>To apply <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please forward a comprehensive CV and covering (motivating) letter, including a certified copy of your ID, available starting date and three references to\u00a0<strong>Mellissa Moses\u00a0<\/strong><strong>(<\/strong><a href=\"mailto:mellissa.moses@iclei.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>mellissa.moses@iclei.org<\/strong><\/a><strong>) <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Application Deadline:<\/strong> 11h00 on 14 October 2019<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ICLEI\u2013Local Governments for Sustainability is a global network of over 1 750 cities and other subnational governments committed to building a sustainable future.
