The ACB is committed to dismantling inequalities in the food and agriculture systems in Africa and to promoting agro-ecology and food sovereignty as feasible alternatives.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title: Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Officer<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Location: <\/strong>Johannesburg<\/p>\n<p>The MEAL Officer must have knowledge and experience in monitoring and reporting on advocacy results and impacts in non-profit organisations. ACB has a functioning M&amp;E system in place, but they want to strengthen it and ensure its effective implementation. ACB uses a logframe to guide their work. The MEAL Officer will cover ACB\u2019s three programme areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Biosafety, genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and new technology<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Seed sovereignty and agroecology<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Resisting corporate power in the agro-food system<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Applicants should have M&amp;E and organisational learning experience and strategic thinking capabilities to lead the development and use of M&amp;E to build ACB, to inform their work and strategic direction, and to strengthen their accountability to ACB\u2019s donors, partners, networks and smallholder communities in Africa.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key responsibilities for this position include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Taking over implementation of existing functions of activity tracking and donor reporting<\/li>\n<li>Working with the communication team on publications monitoring, reach and impact<\/li>\n<li>Introducing, developing and implementing systems for high quality M&amp;E across ACB\u2019s functional areas and activities, including design and implementation of occasional surveys with donors, partners, networks and farmers<\/li>\n<li>Introducing, implementing and adapting tools and methods for impact monitoring, accountability monitoring, and organisational learning<\/li>\n<li>Providing support in developing outcome and output indicators, and any other M&amp;E related activities as required<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The\u00a0MEAL Officer\u00a0must possess and be able to demonstrate:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A recognised M&amp;E qualification, minimum Bachelors\u2019 degree<\/li>\n<li>A minimum of 10 years of organizational experience in M&amp;E<\/li>\n<li>Thorough familiarity with principles and current approaches to MEAL using both quantitative and qualitative methods<\/li>\n<li>Some work experience related to smallholder agriculture, food, biodiversity or environment<\/li>\n<li>Proven English writing skills (based on writing samples)<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work independently and to tight deadlines with minimal supervision<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work well in teams<\/li>\n<li>Good computer skills (writing, spreadsheets\/databases)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Experience in any of the following will be an advantage:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A history of social\/environmental activism<\/li>\n<li>Desktop and\/or field research<\/li>\n<li>Work with a diversity of social actors, including smallholder farmers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The successful candidate will be based in Johannesburg and will work from ACB\u2019s office, with some regional travel. Costs of relocation can be negotiated if necessary.<\/p>\n<p>ACB has an Employment Equity policy in place, and is committed to racial and gender equality in our divided and unequal society. Preference will therefore be given to black African and women candidates.<\/p>\n<p>The candidate must be a good fit with ACB\u2019s organisational culture and ACB reserves the right not to hire anybody to the position.
