It is one of South Africa\u2019s leading development think tanks, focusing on critical national development issues and their relationship to inclusive economic growth and democratic consolidation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title: Media and Communications Manager\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Location:\u00a0<\/strong>Johannesburg<\/p>\n<p>To provide an energetic, pro-active, efficient and comprehensive communications service to enhance the impact of CDE\u2019s work. This includes developing and managing a communication plan, including a focus on social media platforms, materials, messages and relationships with key stakeholders, especially media.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key responsibilities for this exciting position include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Media relations<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Planning and managing media conferences<\/li>\n<li>Arranging interviews and appearances on TV and Radio for CDE experts<\/li>\n<li>Drafting press releases, op-ed, editorials and other information for the media Grow and maintain a database of relevant media contacts<\/li>\n<li>Facilitating media monitoring reports from the current service provider and share relevant reports with staff and donors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>2. Staff &amp; process management<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Managing a team of 4-5 staff members including a digital designer, events coordinator and digital communications officer<\/li>\n<li>Plan and align department\u2019s delivery with organisation\u2019s operational plan<\/li>\n<li>Managing processes including production and distribution of publications<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>3. Social Media &amp; website<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Managing social media marketing campaigns and day-to-day activities and maintaining CDE\u2019s online reputation using both traditional and digital means<\/li>\n<li>Maintaining overall look and feel of the website in line with the organisation\u2019s branding review media monitoring to select media articles for profiling on the site<\/li>\n<li>Developing content for different distribution channels including video and podcasts<\/li>\n<li>Organize and manage content on the CDE website using WordPress<\/li>\n<li>Leading future development of the CDE website platform in collaboration with internal and external team members<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>4. Communications<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maintaining and expanding CDE\u2019s current database with the help of dedicated staff members<\/li>\n<li>Optimize CDE\u2019s current database software to improve targeting and maximize impact<\/li>\n<li>Writing and editing compelling, accurate copy for diverse audiences and formats (web, print, social media, PowerPoint, newsletters, technical publications and factsheets), working closely with research staff<\/li>\n<li>Planning and managing the design and production of the annual report and other in-house publications<\/li>\n<li>Being the custodian of CDE\u2019s corporate ID and all other branding and marketing opportunities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>5. Stakeholder engagement<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Planning and managing events, meetings and presentations to engage with all stakeholders including experts, academics, business leaders and donors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>Media and Communications Manager\u00a0<\/strong>must possess and be able to demonstrate:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Honors Degree in Communications or similar (Journalism, Politics, English)<\/li>\n<li>Active interest in and knowledge of South Africa\u2019s current socio-political environment<\/li>\n<li>Minimum ten years\u2019 relevant work experience<\/li>\n<li>Excellent relationships with journalists across all media, understanding of the news cycle, deadlines, news values and newsroom process knowledge and using social media as an effective tool<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of and experience in website maintenance using WordPress<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of and experience in working on social media platforms for business<\/li>\n<li>Advanced MS Office skills especially PowerPoint<\/li>\n<li>3-years\u2019 experience in managing staff<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Preferred Education and Experience:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Master\u2019s degree in communications or similar (Journalism, Politics, English)<\/li>\n<li>Five or more years\u2019 experience working independently<\/li>\n<li>Experience in managing a national media campaign to promote a concept, idea or complex issue in traditional as well as social media<\/li>\n<li>Experience working as a journalist\/editor for a leading South African publication<\/li>\n<li>Proficiency in additional languages such as isiZulu and isiXhosa<\/li>\n<li>Experience of working in a small organisation or advocacy NGO where flexibility and multi-tasking are essential<\/li>\n<li>Working knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Microsoft Dynamics CRM system<\/li>\n<li>5 years\u2019 or more experience staff management experience<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>To apply<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>View the full job description and application instructions on the Vacancies page at\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.actionappointments.co.za\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">www.actionappointments.co.za<\/a><\/strong> and email your application to \u00a0<strong><a href=\"mailto:tracy@actionappointments.co.za\">tracy@actionappointments.co.za<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Application Deadline:\u00a0<\/strong>Friday, 18<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0October 2019<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CDE is an independent policy research and advocacy organisation.
