Careful attention must be given to image selection and edit to effectively to match with stories. All photographs and video must be accurately filed to build a media library.<\/p>\n<p>This position is part of the JAM South Africa\u2019s Marketing team to produce, facilitate, channel and support relevant corporate material for donor campaigns as well as marketing-related outcomes for website content and organisational promotional resources to its internal and external stakeholders.<\/p>\n<p>The Photographic Journalist will participate in social media posting, and management, as part of a team. The goal is to achieve superior customer interest and engagement through \u201creal life\u201d posting on the effectiveness of our programmes and our humanitarian approach.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Photography and video:\u00a070%<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work with Marketing Manager and Country Director regarding images required and their intended use.<\/li>\n<li>Travel within South Africa to reach and document programming at various locations.<\/li>\n<li>Manage and maintain computer and camera equipment.<\/li>\n<li>Seek out effective stories and appealing photographs in line with objectives set.<\/li>\n<li>Edit photographs using appropriate software to meet quality standards.<\/li>\n<li>Use experience to plan photographs and ensure great subject composition. Select and adjust subjects, equipment and lighting to achieve desired effect.<\/li>\n<li>Keep up to date with industry trends, developments and new techniques and apply them in the work place.<\/li>\n<li>Manage the business aspects of the work, including administration, scheduling work, follow procedures as to all requirement and photo back-ups.<\/li>\n<li>Create artificial light, using flashes and reflectors.<\/li>\n<li>Arranging still life objects, scenes, props and backgrounds.<\/li>\n<li>Capture images in an ethical manner.<\/li>\n<li>Write copy, captions or headlines to accompany photos.<\/li>\n<li>Liaising with other professionals, including graphic designers, managers, picture researchers, commissioning editors and art directors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Writing: 15%<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Productive writing and packaging of feature and other stories for social media and websites.<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate with Programmes department and Marketing functions to produce and edit all material as required.<\/li>\n<li>Contribute video, photo and story information for the production of various internal communication channels and communiqu\u00e9.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Social Media: 15%<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Develop and implement JAM\u2019s global social media strategy<\/li>\n<li>Post to and monitor a range of social media accounts, simultaneously<\/li>\n<li>Help grow social reach, engagement, and referral traffic<\/li>\n<li>Spot social media trends, including new platforms and changes to existing ones<\/li>\n<li>Brainstorm and generate search-friendly headlines and social-friendly copy with team<\/li>\n<li>Write content that is suitable for various social media platforms<\/li>\n<li>Drive engagement and conversations with the community and ultimately establishing brand loyalty<\/li>\n<li>Execute and optimise content during campaigns to ensure momentum and optimal visibility<\/li>\n<li>Keeping up-to-date with the latest trends within the digital and social media landscape<\/li>\n<li>Analyse, review and report on effectiveness of campaigns to maximise results<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Adobe Suite experience<\/li>\n<li>A journalistic, enquiring mind and excellent ability to interview and capture brief, descriptive text<\/li>\n<li>Time management and multitasking skills \u2013 ability to prioritise and track time<\/li>\n<li>An in-depth knowledge, understanding of and proficiency on social media platforms, their respective participants (Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn and Pinterest, as well as emerging platforms, etc.) and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios<\/li>\n<li>Minimum of 3 years\u2019 experience fulfilling a similar role<\/li>\n<li>Good technical understanding and can pick up new tools quickly<\/li>\n<li>Maintains excellent writing and language skills<\/li>\n<li>Meticulous attention to detail<\/li>\n<li>Friendly, relational personality<\/li>\n<li>Valid driver\u2019s licence<\/li>\n<li>Experience within an NGO environment will be an advantage<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Key skills\/competencies<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Languages: English is essential<\/li>\n<li>Computer literacy is essential.
