The ACB is committed to dismantling inequalities in the food and agriculture systems in Africa and to promoting agroecology and food sovereignty as feasible alternatives.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title: Junior Social Media \/ Communications Officer<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Location:<\/strong> Johannesburg<br \/>\n<strong>Remuneration:<\/strong> Salary will be commensurate with experience.<br \/>\n<strong>\u200bStart date:<\/strong> is mid-January 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the position\u00a0will mainly to be responsible for website uploads, social media inputs, monitoring of daily news activities and advising on potential reposts and updating the database. In addition, the communications officer will assist the communications coordinator on tasks including: proofreading blurbs, creating and sending mailers, archiving materials and support for meetings. Experience in photography, videography and\/or video editing would be advantageous.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Social Media (30%)<\/li>\n<li>Draft social media content and ensure regular social media output;<\/li>\n<li>Add updates to social media calendar;<\/li>\n<li>Monitor for conversations aligned to the ACB and engage audiences;<\/li>\n<li>Social media monitoring and reporting.<\/li>\n<li>Media (20%)<\/li>\n<li>Conduct daily media monitoring and reporting;<\/li>\n<li>Identify media opportunities;<\/li>\n<li>Produce monthly reports on media and communication coverage and engagement.<\/li>\n<li>Website uploads (10%)<\/li>\n<li>Preparing images and uploading content to the website and linking from social media.<\/li>\n<li>Communication (40%)<\/li>\n<li>Assist the Communications Coordinator with the following :<\/li>\n<li>Preparation of text and visual content;<\/li>\n<li>Relationship coordination with service providers (e.g. graphic designer, translators, printers;<\/li>\n<li>Sourcing images for publications and assist with development of communications collateral;<\/li>\n<li>Assist with the archiving and inventory list of publications and branding materials;<\/li>\n<li>Assist with administration for Communication Team;<\/li>\n<li>Assist with other Communication Team tasks as may arise.<\/li>\n<li>Desired qualifications and competencies:<\/li>\n<li>Degree or Diploma in Communication\/Media\/Journalism or equivalent;<\/li>\n<li>Minimum 2 years\u2019 experience in a communication role;<\/li>\n<li>Computer literate at intermediate level: MS Office;<\/li>\n<li>Excellent writing skills;<\/li>\n<li>Thorough understanding of and ability to use social media;<\/li>\n<li>Good understanding of Google analytics, web and content management;<\/li>\n<li>Good understanding of media management and monitoring software;<\/li>\n<li>Good understanding of HTML editing;<\/li>\n<li>Basic understanding of communication strategy;<\/li>\n<li>Excellent written and spoken English.<\/li>\n<li>Other South African languages and\/or French or Portuguese advantageous.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Applicants should have a minimum of two years experience, preferably in a similar position in an NGO working in the field of food, biodiversity or environment, though this is not an requirement.<\/p>\n<p>The ACB has an Employment Equity policy in place, and is committed to racial and gender equality in our divided and unequal society.<\/p>\n<p>Preference will therefore be given to black African and women candidates.<\/p>\n<p>The candidate must be a good fit with the ACB\u2019s organisational culture and the ACB reserves the right not to hire anybody to the position.<\/p>\n<p>ACB\u00a0is\u00a0looking for a flexible team player who can work well under pressure, with a high level of professionalism.<\/p>\n<p>The ideal candidate is self-motivated, can take direction, has an eye for detail and can learn quickly.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that short-listed candidates will be required to take a short writing and copy-edit test.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To apply <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you are interested in applying, please send your CV and a motivation letter stating why you want to work with us and why you believe you are the perfect match by 18\u00a0November, 2019 to\u00a0<strong><a href=\"mailto:deidre@acbio.org.za\">deidre@acbio.org.za<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Application Deadline:\u00a0<\/strong>Monday, 11 November, 2019<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The African Centre for Biodiversity (ACB) is a registered NPO based in South Africa and working throughout the African continent.
