The goal of Africa Check\u2019s work is to raise the quality of information available to society across the continent.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2012 we have fact-checked more than 1500 claims on topics from crime and race in South Africa to population numbers in Nigeria and fake health cures in countries around Africa.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title: Researcher (Full-time)<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Location:\u00a0<\/strong>Witwatersrand in Johannesburg<\/p>\n<p>The Researcher is responsible for identifying important claims in public debate to be fact-checked, undertaking research to verify or debunk them and writing up the findings in an easily understandable way.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key responsibilities include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Researching and producing reports on key claims circulating in public debate in South Africa and southern Africa<\/li>\n<li>Acting as a spokesperson for Africa Check, including speaking at events and in the media on claims in the researcher\u2019s subject area<\/li>\n<li>Assisting in training workshops and other events for media, civil society organisations, the general public and policymakers<\/li>\n<li>Contributing to impact tracking and assessment of Africa Check\u2019s work, including reporting on a regular basis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A bachelor\u2019s degree<\/li>\n<li>A minimum of three years\u2019 experience in fact-related fields such as media, research and academia<\/li>\n<li>Well-honed nonsense detector<\/li>\n<li>Passion for news<\/li>\n<li>Ability to act impartially<\/li>\n<li>Attention to detail<\/li>\n<li>Ability to explain complex issues in simple language<\/li>\n<li>Strong numeracy, analytical and research skills<\/li>\n<li>Specialist subject knowledge in, for example, health, economics or statistics (advantageous)<\/li>\n<li>Fluency in an African language\/French (advantageous)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>To apply <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Submit a CV with a cover letter explaining why you would be ideal for the position to\u00a0<strong><a href=\"mailto:info@africacheck.org\">info@africacheck.org<\/a> <\/strong>using the following subject line: \u201cApplication for Researcher position\u201d.
