This five-year project aims to build more resilient and water secure Southern African communities and ecosystems through improved management of transboundary natural resources and increased access to safe drinking water and sanitation services.<\/p>\n<p>We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world. The position will be based in Pretoria, South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title:\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Communications Specialist<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Location:\u00a0<\/strong>South Africa<\/p>\n<p>The Communications Specialist will be responsible for supporting specific project initiatives with communications activities and public awareness programs that assure stakeholders understand and are able to access the benefits of new reforms.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Development of systems and management of processes to meet communications goals as follows:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Develop a comprehensive communications strategy for the project.<\/li>\n<li>Design and continuously monitor public outreach activities using illustrative tools such as targeted public awareness campaigns, print advertising, radio, websites (including partners), and other forms of electronic communications, launch events and strategy\/information sharing discussions.<\/li>\n<li>Establish guidelines and processes for project reporting, media outreach (e.g., ground rules for contacts with the press, authorized spokespersons, key messages, and most effective media channels), and final report planning.<\/li>\n<li>Work closely with Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist to monitor the impact of public awareness\/communications activities.<\/li>\n<li>Plan and facilitate internal communications to support project implementation and ensure consistency in communication activities.<\/li>\n<li>Work with the Gender Specialist to ensure that gender perspectives are properly incorporated into all project communications activities.<\/li>\n<li>Review the project Branding and Marking Strategy and help refine the strategy based on comments, if any, from USAID.<\/li>\n<li>Implement the project Branding and Marking Strategy throughout the life of the project and orient all employees with the Branding and Marking Strategy.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure compliance with USAID communications and branding requirements.<\/li>\n<li>Obtain USAID approval for project products, messages, and press contacts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Preparation and production of written and electronic materials:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Monitor project activities to identify impact and success stories and ensure they are captured, developed, and distributed to USAID and effectively used in project communications products.<\/li>\n<li>Create project materials and templates (e.g., project fact sheet, a contacts database, PowerPoint presentation, brochure, stationery, business cards).<\/li>\n<li>Work with other project team members to develop communications products that support the implementation of their components.<\/li>\n<li>Help identify local resources and manage contracts with local communications production houses.<\/li>\n<li>Provide senior editing and content quality control to project writers on communications materials including press releases, brochures, newsletters, success stories, and fact sheets.<\/li>\n<li>Develops ad hoc materials based on strategic programmatic needs, including briefs for governments and other key stakeholders, marketing materials, and data-driven multimedia pieces to \u201ctell the story\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Collates stories and data from project staff, partners, and key stakeholders for use in high-impact communications materials designed for internal and external consumption.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Communications with USAID:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work closely with the project staff and provide editing and content quality control to assist in the development of progress reports and other project deliverables, including quarterly reports, annual reports, and success stories.<\/li>\n<li>Work with USAID Mission to apply branding and marking regulations and other communications guidelines.<\/li>\n<li>Establish systems to disseminate regular project successes and information for USAID\u2019s Web site and other publications.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Management of stakeholder communications:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Respond to technical team leaders\u2019 requests for communications assistance and provide creative ideas for using communications tools to improve the implementation and effectiveness of the project\u2019s activities.<\/li>\n<li>Integrate communications activities into annual work plans.<\/li>\n<li>Develop, manage, and implement advertising campaigns and public awareness campaigns, using print, audiovisual, and other media.<\/li>\n<li>Manage the budget assigned to communications activities by each project component.<\/li>\n<li>Oversee life-of-project stakeholder research and information and prepare and pre-test communications messages, materials, and programs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Advanced degree in communications or a related field<\/li>\n<li>Experience in a communications role on a regional natural resource management project in southern Africa is a key attribute<\/li>\n<li>Three to five years of outreach experience in wildlife and natural resource management preferred<\/li>\n<li>Experience crafting narrative and video materials, with proven skills in planning and organizing events<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated understanding of outreach through social media<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of USAID branding and marking and communication reporting requirements desired<\/li>\n<li>Willingness to travel frequently within southern Africa<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity,
