ICLEI provides technical services, capacity building, networking opportunities and cutting-edge urban solutions to its member cities and their communities.\u00a0ICLEI\u2019s African Head Office, which serves ICLEI\u2019s member cities from across Africa, is based in Cape Town (<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.africa.iclei.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">www.africa.iclei.org<\/a><\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>We are looking for a creative, multi-talented Communications Officer, who is passionate about making a difference in the world! He\/she needs to be a conscientious individual with a \u2018can do\u2019 attitude who can adapt quickly, work well under pressure with multiple stakeholders at different levels and think on his\/her feet.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title: Communications Officer &#8211; Energy &amp; Climate Change<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Location:\u00a0<\/strong>South Africa<\/p>\n<p><strong>The job will include the following and the successful candidate should have proven expertise\/skills in these areas:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Website conceptualisation and the ability to work with a developer to produce a visually appealing and user-friendly, interactive website suited to the target audience<\/li>\n<li>Website content management: Producing and editing content, and updating websites (e.g. WordPress)<\/li>\n<li>Social media: Developing and implementing successful Twitter and Facebook campaigns<\/li>\n<li>Website and social media tracking<\/li>\n<li>Writing: Identifying story angles, interviewing, researching, distilling key messages and writing up content for articles and media releases<\/li>\n<li>Mailing list: Digital mailer design and setup (e.g. Mailchimp), producing regular newsletters, growing the mailing list and keeping the mailing list healthy<\/li>\n<li>Editing and proofreading<\/li>\n<li>Collating content (articles, reports, photos and video) from various stakeholders and managing approvals, timelines and deadlines<\/li>\n<li>Photography: Taking photographs and managing photography database<\/li>\n<li>Videography and editing: Produce and brief both short campaign clips and longer, informative videos<\/li>\n<li>Development and implementation of communication campaigns<\/li>\n<li>Production of publications from brief to print<\/li>\n<li>Event planning and organisation of smaller and largescale events<\/li>\n<li>Communicating concepts related to sustainability, preferably climate change, energy and resilience to diverse stakeholders, and in particular, politicians and technical officials, would be a big advantage<\/li>\n<li>Project management: Ability to deliver projects and accompanying deliverables on time and with high quality<\/li>\n<li>Possess a network of media professionals that can be harnessed to promote the work of ICLEI Africa.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The following would be advantageous:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Diplomacy, particularly with high ranking government officials and funders<\/li>\n<li>Experience in working with\/within government<\/li>\n<li>Proficiency in another language spoken in Africa, especiallly French<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of the African and global geo-political context<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Relevant post-graduate degree or equivalent qualification<\/li>\n<li>At least 2 years of relevant work experience related to the above listed areas<\/li>\n<li>Excellent English written, presentation and verbal communication skills<\/li>\n<li>Highly computer literate<\/li>\n<li>Good eye for design<\/li>\n<li>Good people skills<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, in multiple and multi-disciplinary teams across the world, in a highly dynamic, fast-paced and creative environment<\/li>\n<li>Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently, effectively and accurately<\/li>\n<li>Ability to interact with all levels of staff, as well as manage consultants<\/li>\n<li>Ability to be agile and flexible about work responsibilities, prioritise and thrive under pressure<\/li>\n<li>Ability to navigate complex organisational and project structures<\/li>\n<li>Problem-solving and analytical skills, well-organised, attention to detail and quality, and a structured and pro-active working style<\/li>\n<li>Valid code B driving license, with at least one year\u2019s driving experience<\/li>\n<li>South African resident\/valid work or critical skills permit<\/li>\n<li>Must have a passion for, and willingness to travel, locally and internationally<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>To apply<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please forward the following documents to\u00a0<strong>Sonya Smith<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:sonya.smith@iclei.org\"><strong>sonya.smith@iclei.org<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Application Deadline:\u00a0<\/strong>11h00 SAST on 7 February 2020<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Comprehensive CV<\/li>\n<li>Covering (motivating) letter<\/li>\n<li>Certified copy of your ID (and if relevant, visa)<\/li>\n<li>An example of your writing<\/li>\n<li>A product that you\u2019ve designed or led the design process of<\/li>\n<li>Three contactable references<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ICLEI\u2013Local Governments for Sustainability\u00a0is a global network of over 1,750 cities and other subnational governments committed to building a sustainable future.
