Electoral Systems Researcher to be based in Cape Town.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title: Electoral Systems Researcher<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Location: <\/strong>Cape Town<br \/>\n<strong>Start date:<\/strong> Immediately<br \/>\n<strong>Salary offer:<\/strong> R19\u00a0000 per month with additional medical aid benefits<br \/>\n<strong>Contract:<\/strong> 12-month fixed term contract (renewable depending on funding)<br \/>\n<strong>Reports to:<\/strong> Director<br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n<li>Provide strategic vision and direction on the electoral systems portfolio in conjunction with the Director and MVC team<\/li>\n<li>Conduct desktop research on electoral systems as it relates to electoral accountability and integrity<\/li>\n<li>Provide policy alternatives for electoral legislation<\/li>\n<li>Produce policy briefs, reports, letters, media releases, op-eds, and submissions as required on electoral systems work<\/li>\n<li>Manage campaigns related to electoral systems, electoral accountability and integrity<\/li>\n<li>Organise workshops\/seminars\/events on MVC related topics when required<\/li>\n<li>Make media appearances on electoral systems work as required<\/li>\n<li>Work closely with other civil society organisations to ensure that MVC\u2019s work complements and enhances the achievement of common organisational goals<\/li>\n<li>Work flexible hours to accommodate developing and urgent events<\/li>\n<li>Assist with developing content for MVC\u2019s electronic media channels<\/li>\n<li>Provide assistance at MVC activities (including, meetings, workshops, seminars etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n<li>Must be a South African citizen or permanent resident with university qualifications in politics, public policy, law, sociology or other relevant degree<\/li>\n<li>Must display an interest in South African politics<\/li>\n<li>Must be able to produce written material that is coherent and analytical<\/li>\n<li>Research experience with an ability to put across complex issues in simple, understandable formats<\/li>\n<li>Sound knowledge and understanding of key issues in the area of politics, public policy, electoral processes and systems, democratic institutions and processes<\/li>\n<li>An understanding of the South African civil society social justice environment will be beneficial, but not required<\/li>\n<li>Strong inter-personal, facilitation, presentation and time management skills<\/li>\n<li>Must be able to engage with a wide range of stakeholders and to represent MVC at stakeholder events<\/li>\n<li>An ability to work independently and within a team<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>To apply<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Submit a CV (maximum three pages), cover letter (maximum two pages) and current contact details of at least three referees in addition to that, please provide the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">A 500 word essay on the state of electoral accountability in Africa<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Please send your application documents to\u00a0<strong><a href=\"mailto:info@myvotecounts.org.za\">info@myvotecounts.org.za<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>quoting\u00a0\u201cElectoral Systems Researcher MVC 2020\u201d in the subject line.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Application Deadline:\u00a0<\/strong>Wednesday, 19 February, 2020<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My Vote Counts (MVC) is a non-profit that aims to improve the accountability, transparency and inclusiveness in South Africa\u2019s political and electoral systems.
