Mindful of the limitations of the law in bringing about social change, we reinforce our work by creating partnerships and<br \/>\nstrengthening our partners\u2019 capacity to do strategic litigation in order to create an\u00a0enabling environment for strategic litigation to achieve its intended impact. We use the law to advance sexual rights and sexual orientation (SOGIE), gender identity and expression in particular and women\u2019s human\u2019s rights in domestic courts and regional accountability mechanisms across the continent.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title: Development Manager<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Location: <\/strong>Johannesburg<\/p>\n<p>The Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa (\u201cISLA\u201d) seeks to appoint a dynamic and experienced Development Manager to lead the design and implementation of our resource mobilisation and monitoring and evaluation (M&amp;E) strategy. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing our resource mobilisation strategy, develop grant proposals in conjunction with the Executive Office and programme staff, communicating with current and prospective donors, and building a stronger development team for our organisation. She will also be responsible for building capacity in performance and impact measurement of the organisation\u2019s work, to be communicated both internally and externally. The candidate will report to the Director of Operations and Finance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The selected candidate will be tasked with the performance of the following duties:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Resource Mobilisation: 40%<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Develop and oversee our annual resource mobilisation strategy;<\/li>\n<li>Collaborating with Executive Director to implement the strategy;<\/li>\n<li>Collaborating with communications team to develop digital fundraising strategy;<\/li>\n<li>Oversee Programmatic Units and Operational meetings to plan milestones and requirements of all teams within the organisation regarding resource mobilisation;<\/li>\n<li>Meet with the Senior Management Team to gauge the organisation\u2019s needs and brainstorm ideas for resource mobilisation for the coming year;<\/li>\n<li>Identify prospective donors and develop strategies to cultivate those relationships;<\/li>\n<li>Oversee grant seeking including research and proposal writing;<\/li>\n<li>Oversee resource mobilisation database and tracking systems;<\/li>\n<li>Prepare and present regular reports on progress towards resource mobilisation goals; and<\/li>\n<li>Build the planned giving program with a focus on deferred gifts such as bequest expectancies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Grant Management: 20%<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Oversee the grant making cycle from application to contract, ensuring that requisite documents are submitted to the funder to conclude new applications;<\/li>\n<li>Keep custody of all grant making related documents;<\/li>\n<li>Ensure budget holders are au fair with the contents of the grant agreements and proposals they are responsible for;<\/li>\n<li>Working with programme staff ensure timely and accurate report deliveries to funders;<\/li>\n<li>Manage a portfolio of donors;<\/li>\n<li>Keep track of donor cycles, ensuring that procedures for initiation through to, renewal as well as close out are adhered to;<\/li>\n<li>Maintain consistent communication and liaison with Generate donor communications, newsletters, and annual reports;<\/li>\n<li>Monitor and analyse all budget trends and make recommendation for cost control for various grants; and<\/li>\n<li>Monitor program budgets and expenditure and coordinate with\u00a0 managers to ensure effective program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Monitoring and Evaluation: 40%<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Providing expertise in M&amp;E planning and methodology, for both internal and external purposes;<\/li>\n<li>Participating in and providing support to project design activities including development of project theories of change and strategic frameworks (Results Frameworks, Log Frames);<\/li>\n<li>Developing a Monitoring and Evaluation\u00a0plan;<\/li>\n<li>Helping determine performance and impact indicators and targets, for both our thematic work as well as for donor reporting purposes;<\/li>\n<li>Providing support to proposal development for M&amp;E components;<\/li>\n<li>Designing and implementing monitoring and evaluation tools and systems;<\/li>\n<li>Developing data collection tools;<\/li>\n<li>Monitoring project activities, outputs and progress towards anticipated results, in line with approved work plans as well as with expected donor outcomes;<\/li>\n<li>Working with data platforms, databases and select technologies to capture and organize data;<\/li>\n<li>Training staff in monitoring and evaluation processes and providing ongoing coaching;<\/li>\n<li>Managing external evaluation consultants and draft scopes of work;<\/li>\n<li>Determining data analysis procedures and use of quantitative or qualitative analysis tools;<\/li>\n<li>Summarizing findings to be shared both with SMT on a regular basis as well as with programme staff;<\/li>\n<li>Developing monthly, quarterly or annual reports depending on project requirements;<\/li>\n<li>Disseminating evaluation findings and project results to donors and other stakeholders;<\/li>\n<li>Contributing to institutional learning processes;<\/li>\n<li>Convening communities of practice and other organizational learning practices;<\/li>\n<li>Tracking best practices in monitoring and evaluation and ensuring that these are incorporated in future decision making processes and ultimately on the organisation\u2019s strategic plan;<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to the development of a culture of reflection and learning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>About the person<\/strong>: This position will be suited to an individual who meets the following criteria:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Skills<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Applied understanding of basic fundraising principles and development best practices<\/li>\n<li>Foundation relationship and grant writing experience<\/li>\n<li>Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading ability<\/li>\n<li>Strong prospect identification and qualification skills<\/li>\n<li>Excellent written, interpersonal and verbal communication skills<\/li>\n<li>Database and spreadsheet proficiency<\/li>\n<li>Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Personal attributes<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Highest standards of excellence and integrity at all times and to all persons;<\/li>\n<li>A courteous, professional and cooperative attitude;<\/li>\n<li>Meticulous attention to detail;<\/li>\n<li>Self-driven, resourceful person who is able to manage and coordinate teamwork well;<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work constructively and professionally across multiple issue areas and under deadline pressure;<\/li>\n<li>Possess the skills to work with and motivate staff, board members and other volunteers;<\/li>\n<li>Be a self-starter and goal driven to initiate donor visits and fundraising calls; and<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work well in a diverse group.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Education and Experience Requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor\u2019s degree or equivalent;<\/li>\n<li>Master\u2019s degree preferred;<\/li>\n<li>Minimum five years of fundraising or non-profit experience;<\/li>\n<li>Previous management experience a plus; and<\/li>\n<li>Proven track record of meeting fundraising goals and securing major gift<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Other information about the position:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Preference will be given to qualifying women Job<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Able and willing to travel occasionally across the continent;<\/li>\n<li>Commitment to the overall aims and values of ISLA; feminism and Pan Africanism; and<\/li>\n<li>Expectation of occasional work outside regular weekday hours, as required to do the job.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Salary:<\/strong>\u00a0This position offers a competitive salary, up
