\n(i)Requirements for Senior Instrument Specialist<\/p>\n
\n\u2022Execute complex detailed test procedures with minimal input from researchers.
\n\u2022Maintain and develop new and existing methods to analyse products and materials and provide documentation.
\n\u2022Lead organizational and trouble-shooting activities, with great attention to details.
\n\u2022Initiate innovative instruments-based research ideas.
\n\u2022Provide professional-level laboratory technical support involving the application of scientific research methods and techniques.<\/p>\n
\n\u2022Analyse samples with spectroscopic, chromatographic, thermal analysis and microscopic techniques.
\n\u2022Hands on use of instruments in the above techniques.
\n\u2022Train and coach junior staff, and contractors.
\n\u2022Lead laboratory safety and housekeeping practices.<\/p>\n
\nEducation for requirements Senior Instrument Specialist:
\n\u2022A PhD in any of the Natural Sciences, Material Science or Polymer Science or related fields with demonstrated analytical skills that include analytical method development.
\nExperience and working knowledge:
\n\u2022Candidate must have at least 10 years\u2019 experience in a research environment, particularly in a chemistry\/material science instrumentation laboratory.
\n\u2022Direct research experience would be an added advantage.
\n\u2022Have industry and\/or research lab experience in the use and maintenance of specific instruments in at two areas: X-ray based (at least 3 instruments) and spectroscopy or spectrometry based (at least 3 instruments).
\n\u2022Have experience in chromatography, mass spectrometry, thermal analysis and microscopy.
\n\u2022Excellent report writing skills and interpretation of data on specialized instruments that his\/her experience is on.<\/p>\n
\nExperience and working knowledge:
\n\u2022Candidate should have at least 5 years\u2019 experience in a research environment.
\n\u2022Candidate should have experience in the use and maintenance of specific instruments such as X-ray based (at least 3 instruments) or spectroscopy\/spectrometry and microscopy (at least 3 instruments).
\n\u2022Ability to interpret data on specialised instruments.
\n\u2022Good report writing skills.<\/p>\n
