The goal of Africa Check\u2019s work is to raise the quality of information available to society across the continent.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2012 we have fact-checked more than 1600 claims on topics from crime and race in South Africa to population numbers in Nigeria and fake health cures in countries around Africa.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title: <\/strong><strong>Impact Manager (Full-time)<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Location:\u00a0<\/strong> Journalism Department of the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg,<\/p>\n<p>The impact manager will be responsible for truly embedding MEL at the core of Africa Check\u2019s work. This role reports to the executive director.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key responsibilities include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Implement and further develop our impact strategy, including refining the approach to impact, the monitoring and evaluation framework, indicators, and monitoring and measuring tools and systems<\/li>\n<li>Mine our impact data and broader research to identify lessons and insights, and effectively communicate those to help us continuously learn and improve our approach to fact-checking<\/li>\n<li>Ensure, in collaboration with our head of partnerships &amp; engagement, that our impact is communicated compellingly to a range of different audiences<\/li>\n<li>Work collaboratively with editors to agree annual targets<\/li>\n<li>Track and closely monitor our progress against targets on an ongoing basis and hold monthly meetings to discuss progress with the senior management team and editors<\/li>\n<li>Produce insightful reports about the impact of our work for our Board of Trustees<\/li>\n<li>Produce compelling and accurate donor reports that speak to the needs of each donor<\/li>\n<li>Lead our research activities aimed at better understanding misinformation and fact-checking on the African continent<\/li>\n<li>Act as academic supervisor for Honours students conducting research about misinformation and fact-checking<\/li>\n<li>Commission research and evaluation work from external parties when required, and manage the relationship with such parties to ensure that the work meets the agreed objectives<\/li>\n<li>Direct our corrections work which focuses on engaging public figures and institutions who make false or misleading claims to seek a correction and a change in practice<\/li>\n<li>Manage the impact coordinator and freelance researchers as required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Master\u2019s degree in relevant field<\/li>\n<li>Minimum 10 years\u2019 relevant work experience in MEL<\/li>\n<li>Experience in measuring, monitoring, evaluating and communicating impact, both quantitative and qualitative<\/li>\n<li>Proven ability to leverage insights to create a culture of learning and inform decision-making<\/li>\n<li>Resilient self-starter who takes ownership of projects while working collaboratively in a team environment<\/li>\n<li>Highly developed analytical skills with proven ability to apply creative solutions to problems<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated ability to present complex data and information in an insightful, engaging and structured manner, both in written and verbal communication<\/li>\n<li>Strong listening skills and ability to craft messages to meet the needs of diverse audiences<\/li>\n<li>An awareness of the nature of mis- and disinformation, specifically in Africa<\/li>\n<li>Proven ability to effectively prioritise when juggling multiple responsibilities while maintaining excellent attention to detail<\/li>\n<li>Experience in working across diverse geographies and cultures (advantageous)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>To apply <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Submit a CV with a cover letter explaining why you would be ideal for the position to\u00a0<strong><a href=\"mailto:info@africacheck.org\">info@africacheck.org<\/a><\/strong> \u00a0using the following subject line: \u201cApplication Impact Manager position\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Application Deadline: <\/strong>2 July 2020<\/p>\n<p><strong>NB: <\/strong>Should you not hear from us within two weeks from the closing date, please accept that your application was unsuccessful.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa Check is a non-profit organisation set up in 2012 to promote accuracy in public debate and the media in Africa.
