Lawyers for Human Rights is a 40-year old non-profit organisation offering specialist public interest legal services in key programme areas such as refugee and migrant rights, land reform, housing, environmental justice, penal reform, gender equality, worker rights and public impact litigation. The organisation has a national footprint, with six offices and legal clinics located around the country.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title: National Director <\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Location:<\/strong>\u00a0Pretoria or Johannesburg. Salary and benefits are competitive with NGO standards.<\/p>\n<p>Candidates for the position should be effective managers and strategic thinkers. The core of the director\u2019s work is managerial.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities include the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Providing strategic thinking and helping to ensure that LHR is well-positioned for the future;<\/li>\n<li>Fundraising and donor engagement;<\/li>\n<li>Managing the organization\u2019s programmes and law clinics effectively;<\/li>\n<li>Representing the organisation and advocating with government, multilateral organisations, international organisations, and other relevant international and regional institutions;<\/li>\n<li>Developing appropriate staff performance mechanisms;<\/li>\n<li>Ensuring sound and rigorous financial management and accountability based on ethical fiscal principles;<\/li>\n<li>Identifying and building strategic partnerships and networks; and<\/li>\n<li>Accounting to the Board of Trustees.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Requirements for the job include the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Must be an admitted legal practitioner in accordance with the Legal Practice Act, having practiced in South Africa for at least 5 years;<\/li>\n<li>Proven track record of successful fundraising from both local and international funding\/donor organizations;<\/li>\n<li>Good understanding of the socio-political and human rights environment in South Africa and the region;<\/li>\n<li>Postgraduate qualification in law or a related field and a substantial record of legal advocacy, evidenced by involvement litigation or campaigns in the broad field of human rights;<\/li>\n<li>Minimum of five years\u2019 senior organisational leadership and management experience in a human rights or related work environment;<\/li>\n<li>Strong organisational, financial, and programme management skills;<\/li>\n<li>Experience in developing networks, collaborations, and partnerships;<\/li>\n<li>Strong verbal and written communication skills, with good interpersonal skills; and<\/li>\n<li>South African citizenship or permanent residency status.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>LHR is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, which will guide this recruitment process.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u200bTo apply<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Submit your applications, including a detailed CV with three contactable references and motivating letter to <strong><a href=\"mailto:Michael@lhr.org.za\">Michael@lhr.org.za<\/a><\/strong> Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Application Deadline:<\/strong>\u00a031 July 2020.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lawyers for Human Rights is seeking to appoint a\u00a0National Director\u00a0to lead this 40-year old, vibrant public interest legal organisation.
