We focus on protecting everyone\u2019s right of access to health care services, basic education and sufficient food, as guaranteed by the Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title:\u00a0Legal Researcher<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Location:\u00a0<\/strong>Johannesburg<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Proactively exploring and researching areas relating to the law and human rights and preparing research reports.<\/li>\n<li>Writing articles for publication in legal and human rights journals.<\/li>\n<li>Producing and publishing easily accessible research and fact sheets on the law and human rights.<\/li>\n<li>Assisting with the drafting of submissions on proposed policy and legislation, including international frameworks and conventions.<\/li>\n<li>Assisting with the drafting of court papers.<\/li>\n<li>Interviewing and taking statements from deponents and potential deponents.<\/li>\n<li>Providing administrative assistance related to case work or other individual needs specific to the legal counsel involved.<\/li>\n<li>Teaching, training and conducting rights education workshops.<\/li>\n<li>Making presentations at meetings and conferences.<\/li>\n<li>Developing partnerships locally, regionally and internationally with other human rights organisations.<\/li>\n<li>Assistance to teams on all aspects of campaigns including through project management where appropriate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>University degree within the field of Law.<\/li>\n<li>1-2 years as a researcher or in a related capacity at a tertiary institution, NGO or in the private sector.<\/li>\n<li>Prior experience in human rights work and\/or public health and legal research.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of constitutional law.<\/li>\n<li>Strong research, written and analytical skills.<\/li>\n<li>Good communication, interpersonal and listening skills.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to multi-task, be flexible and adapt to the objectives and work areas of S27.<\/li>\n<li>Good time management.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Personal attributes<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ability to work under pressure.<\/li>\n<li>Willingness to work beyond official working times.<\/li>\n<li>Meticulous attention to detail.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work in a team.<\/li>\n<li>Willingness to travel at times.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Languages<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fluency in spoken and written English.<\/li>\n<li>Proficiency in one or more indigenous South African language languages.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please forward your curriculum vitae accompanied by a motivation as to why you are interested in the position to <a href=\"mailto:applications@section27.org.za\">applications@section27.org.za<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Application Deadline:\u00a0<\/strong>Friday, 13 November, 2020<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SECTION27 is a high-profile non-profit organisation that uses public interest law and advocacy to protect, promote and advance human rights and social justice.
