In delivering \u2018social science that makes a difference\u2019 in South Africa and the region, the Research Programmes of the Human Sciences Research Council initiate and undertake policy-oriented research projects and programmes from its offices in Cape Town, Durban, Pietermaritzburg and Pretoria. Its public-purpose mandate is set out in the Human Sciences Research Council Act of 2008.<\/p>\n

HUMAN RESOURCES AND CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Human Resources (HR) department is responsible to design and implement strategies which support the organisation in transforming research capabilities, through the building of research capacity and transforming human capital. These strategies focus on retention, transformation, and capacity development.<\/p>\n

The Capacity Development sub-unit focus on effective Human Capital development through the consolidation and expansions of research trainee programmes, training and development within the organisation, fellowship programmes, special project Internship programme, succession planning and mentoring. The unit collaborates with internal partners in research programmes, support services and other cross-cutting units in contributing to the HSRC\u2019s meeting its annual targets.<\/p>\n

To give effect to the strategic objectives of the HSRC an opportunity is available to appoint a dynamic, Head: Capacity, Growth, and Innovation. This position is Pretoria based and the appointment is for a duration of five (5) years. It is required that the appointee will understand and respond to the challenge of building capacity in the areas of research development, proposal and report writing and journal and book publications as well. We are looking for accomplished incumbents with experience of learning and development, the design of customised training materials, facilitating training workshops and actively driving Researcher advancement.<\/p>\n

Job Summary:<\/strong>
\nKey responsibilities:<\/strong>
\n\u2022Develop, design and implement a Capacity Development Strategy for the entire organisation;
\n\u2022Implement a staff development programme;
\n\u2022Oversee the monitoring of training programme implementation and evaluation;
\n\u2022Facilitate the identification of training needs and formulate training interventions for all staff in collaboration with research programmes and support units;
\n\u2022Oversee all capacity development programmes;
\n\u2022Manage the Capacity Development budget;
\n\u2022Formulate and revise policies in support of the HSRC\u2019s capacity building objectives;
\n\u2022Manage and\/or coordinates special capacity development projects \/ initiatives;
\n\u2022Deliver high-quality results and reports;
\n\u2022Liaison and networking with major users, funders and industry;
\n\u2022Mentor junior and fellow colleagues;
\n\u2022Manage the Capacity Development team;
\n\u2022Personally design and develop training materials;
\n\u2022Implement and maintain an e-learning platform;
\n\u2022Closely liaise with IT colleagues to ensure a user-friendly e-learning platform is in place to enhance learning and growth;
\n\u2022Manage succession planning within the organisation;
\n\u2022Implement and coordinates youth development initiatives as part of the retention and attraction focus;
\n\u2022Manage Service Level Agreements applicable to project\/s or initiatives;
\n\u2022Develop, design and implement capacity development competency framework;
\n\u2022Ensure that all new staff are properly on-boarded and responsible for induction;
\n\u2022Ensure adherence to compliance and regulatory requirements e.g. skills reporting etc.;
\n\u2022Drive and manage the VIP\/SAGE skills module;
\n\u2022Actively drive capacity development transformation aligned with Employment Equity and BBBEE objectives;
\n\u2022Manage risk within Capacity, Growth and Innovation;
\n\u2022Compile and submit strategic reports;
\n\u2022Manage Audit requirements;
\n\u2022Drive capacity, growth and innovation initiatives which builds capabilities towards an enabling workforce, enhancing performance and supports collaboration innovations; and
\n\u2022Actively engage business partners.
\nRequirements<\/p>\n

Key requirements:<\/strong>
\n\u2022At least a Masters\u2019 degree with 10 years post qualification experience in the social or education sciences related disciplines. A PhD degree will be an added advantage;
\n\u2022Excellent writing skills necessary for establishing training materials and drafting reports;
\n\u2022Intellectual and personal integrity, imagination and drive;
\n\u2022A strong user orientation based on a commitment to social research that makes a difference;
\n\u2022Fully au fait with skills reporting and the SETA environment;
\n\u2022Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with staff from diverse backgrounds;
\n\u2022Ability to interact and communicate effectively at senior levels, in writing, orally, and in presentations;
\n\u2022Ability to work in collaborative teams to deliver excellent service;
\n\u2022Ability to work to deadlines and overtime when necessary;
\n\u2022High level of computer literacy and thorough administrative skills.<\/p>\n
