\nTo provide legal services, including support and advice to all TIA Business Units, and, in respect of TIA projects\/programs, to ensure that TIA is protected by sound legal contracts. The Legal Advisor: Commercial position reports to the Head: Legal Services. This is a specialist position and does not have subordinates.<\/p>\n
\n\u2022Provide input in the formulation of the operational business plan for the Legal Services BU.
\n\u2022Provide input in the formulation of legal policies, guidelines, frameworks and business processes.
\n\u2022Provide input in the review Standard Operating Procedures of the Legal Services BU.
\n\u2022Assist with monitoring of turnaround times to ensure timeous completion of work.
\n\u2022Capture all legal information relating to TIA operations on the applicable systems.
\n\u2022Ensure an optimal process for workflow management is implemented in the BU.
\n\u2022Produce workflow management status reports as and when required.
\n\u2022Assist with quality assurance of work produced by the Legal Advisors.
\n\u2022Maintain a Contract Register\/database.
\n\u2022Perform due diligence on TIA\u2019s projects and programs.
\n\u2022Draft contracts for TIA operations, TIA projects and TIA programs.
\n\u2022Draft legal opinions.
\n\u2022Identify and report on potential legal risks.
\n\u2022Live the values and culture of TIA
\n\u2022Ensures that Departmental Information systems and tools are optimally utilised to execute core tasks.
\n\u2022Identify and implement development opportunities to ensure continuous improvement of work effectiveness and efficiency.
\n\u2022Identify root causes of delays in the processes and implement measures to address the delays.
\n\u2022Project information accurately using the relevant information management systems in place.
\n\u2022Provide support and assistance to other Legal Advisors to achieve their milestones.
\n\u2022Ad-hoc \u2013 any other related work allocated by Line Manager, as and when required.
\n\u2022Represent the Head: Legal Services on various committees as may be required.
\n\u2022Participate in establishing cooperative customer relationships with stakeholders internally and externally.
\n\u2022Provide quality services that meets corporate programme and project needs of TIA.
\n\u2022Provide input and assistance in the preparation of the budget and forecasts for the Legal department.
\n\u2022Ensure information systems and tools are optimally utilised to execute core tasks.
\n\u2022Quality assure all reports, memos, working papers.
\n\u2022Proactively identify continual improvement strategies.
\n\u2022Monitor agreed quality initiatives ensuring that it is aligned to business processes and delivered as agreed.
\n\u2022Initiate new projects that will improve how the Legal Services BU supports the business.
\n\u2022Participate in the internal and external audit exercise and resolution of all audit matters in the BU.
\n\u2022Ensure compliance with applicable legislation.
\n\u2022Ensure compliance with all TIA\u2019s policies, frameworks, guidelines and systems (performance management, HR, finance, Stakeholder information, fund management, reporting, etc).
\n\u2022Ensure compliance with regards to the implementation of internal policies and procedures.
\n\u2022Proactively identify and address internal and external risks to protect the organisation.
\n\u2022Mentor other Legal Advisors to transfer knowledge and skill
\n\u2022Attend work-related, self-development courses including training (both external and internal) seminars, conferences, webinars and workshops<\/p>\n
\nJob Requirements:<\/strong>
\nQualifications and Experience:<\/strong>
\n\u2022Bachelor\u2019s degree in Law \/ LLB \/ related fields
\n\u2022Admission as an Attorney or Advocate is essential
\n\u2022Minimum: Seven (7) years\u2019 post admission experience in a supervisory capacity.
\n\u2022Preferred: In addition to the above, two (2) years\u2019 experience in a commercial or intellectual property environment and\/or prior exposure to the technology innovation environment.
