Milpark Education is a registered Private Higher Education Institution offering business management education that focuses on the areas of management and leadership, financial planning and insurance, and banking across South Africa and in other parts of Africa.<\/p>\n

Milpark offers full-time, part-time and distance learning Higher Education (HE) and Further Education and Training (FET) qualifications, as well as career-focused short courses. The higher education qualifications offered start at NQF level 5, extend into levels 6 and 7, and culminate in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) at NQF level 8. Our financial planning qualifications cover the spectrum from NQF level 4 through to NQF level 8.<\/p>\n

Job Summary:<\/strong>
\nEditing:<\/strong>
\n\u2022Carry out detailed analysis of the text and structure, as well as correcting grammatical errors
\n\u2022Double-check the revised, edited work
\n\u2022Implement all editorial changes Edit the manuscript (hard or electronic copy) by looking at the overall structure of the text (flow of the chapters in the book, the sequence of the text in a chapter, the appropriate use
\nof headings, use of design and illustrative elements in relation to the text) and correcting grammar, punctuation and spelling errors. Produce material of high quality by ensuring accuracy and minimal or zero errors.
\n\u2022Edit assessments by checking logic, grammar, consistency and accuracy of numbering and mark allocations.
\n\u2022Check citations and references.
\n\u2022Check that all instructional elements are in place as per design guidelines and template. Keep in mind NQF levels and appropriate register\/level; keep in mind educational aspect of material and ensure that writing
\nstyle is appropriate
\n\u2022Edit assessments by checking logic, grammar, consistency and accuracy of numbering and mark allocations.
\n\u2022Moderate multiple-choice test questions according to laid-down Milpark best-practice standards.
\n\u2022Check citations and references in line with adapted Harvard style using Milpark\u2019s Reference Guide.
\n\u2022Format manuscripts and assessments according to styles laid out in Style Guide and using pre-established Word styles in latest Style Template. Produce material of high quality by ensuring that formatting is
\nconsistent and correct.
\n\u2022Liaise with authors and academics regarding queries and implement changes.
\n\u2022Assist with editing\/amending factsheets and forms when requested and when capacity allows.
\n\u2022Double-check the revised, edited work.
\n\u2022Update any project-related documentation required as per editors\u2019 schedule\/timesheet
\n\u2022Quality-check the edited manuscript to ensure that the text has been prepared according to set standards<\/p>\n

Formatting:<\/strong>
\n\u2022Use Word Styles to format study material according to predetermined style set to ensure text is laid out correctly and neatly and headings are at correct level.<\/p>\n

Proofreading:<\/strong>
\n\u2022Check consistency in language usage and layout as defined to ensure the quality of the final product. This role ensures the final quality of the material in order to ensure compliance with the above standard (to check
\ndesign and layout are correct, and to use good judgement in marking amendments, to minimise costs and delays)
\n\u2022Implement all proofreading changes
\n\u2022Quality-check the edited manuscript to ensure that the text has been revised according to set standards.
\n\u2022Implement all proofreading changes.
\n\u2022Resolve any further author queries.
\n\u2022Update any project-related documentation required as per editors\u2019 schedule\/timesheet\/planning and status documents
\n\u2022Ensure that all new books are checked and signed off by Chief Editor and Academics.
\n\u2022Once books have been signed off by the Chief Editor and Academics, do a final pre-print quality check in PDF to ensure that the print-ready book meets standards.<\/p>\n

The management of learning material:<\/strong>
\n\u2022Comply with document management, storage of versions, liaise with academics, draw up materials development contracts and record details, and ensure good teamwork with the deans and academics.
\n\u2022Resolve all author queries
\n\u2022Update any project-related documentation required, i.e., tracking documents, job bag or timesheet. Once books have been signed off by the Academics and the Chief Editor, do a final pre-print quality check to
\nensure that the print-ready book meets standards.<\/p>\n

Maintenance, storage and security of documents:<\/strong>
\n\u2022Ensure that correct file naming procedures are followed for all assessments and study material and that version control is exercised
\n\u2022Ensure that integrity of documents and intellectual capital is safeguarded: documents are never distributed without proper authorisation
\n\u2022Ensure that correct passwords are used for assessments in final folders
\n\u2022Ensure that finalised assessments are uploaded to files for printing and uploading on Moodle
\n\u2022Liaise with CE regarding access of editors to assessment folders and creation of new assessment folders
\n\u2022Ensure that all finalised assessments are correctly stored in final folders.
\n\u2022Processes: Ensure all processes are followed on all occasions.
\n\u2022Where required, assist in authoring process; meet with authors at initial meetings; liaise with author and academic during authoring process and follow up on deadlines together with Academic Owner. Answer
\nauthor queries re formatting and language.
\n\u2022Assist with drawing up of LOA based on AMIs.
\n\u2022Ensure that all documents are preserved in line with the requirements of the POPI Act, 2013 (Act No. 4 of 2013) and that any sensitive personal information is deleted or safeguarded.
\n\u2022Assist with processing claim forms from authors, critical readers and reviewers. Ensure Chief Editor signs off on these.
\n\u2022Materials development process respected and followed, e.g., internal review forms used for all internal changes to material; only correctly compiled AMIs used in new POPIA-compliant method; LOAs followed up
\non, received back timeously and signed by all. Correct templates sent out to authors and reviewers; all books signed off and filed. Ensure Pending Books list is consistently maintained and filled in. Use only X files
\nrequested from Chief Editor for updating modules.
\n\u2022Send correct version books to printers according to laid-down guidelines and log date in Planner. Ensure appropriate staff members are informed.
\n\u2022Take responsibility for assigned modules, assignments, and exam papers; follow up with academics and authors where required; update Planner appropriately.
\n\u2022Security of intellectual property: All materials copyrighted to Milpark. No electronic copies handed out to any unauthorised internal or external parties. Detect plagiarism where possible and taking the required
\nremedial action. Ensure that assessments are correctly password protected and that safety of confidential material is protected at all times.<\/p>\n

Planning and tracking:<\/strong>
\n\u2022Record-keeping: Timesheets (activity sheets) completed daily, including keeping account of hours spent on study material; all status documents updated and accurately maintained (Planner, OneNote Book Tracker;
\nPending Books list). Pending work status communicated to Chief Editor to allow for overview of workflow and capacity. Comments window in study material kept up to date. Version control maintained; folders
\nmaintained in orderly and logical fashion; original and final documents filed and preserved correctly; documents named with correct, complete filenames. Know how all information is stored in the department.
\n\u2022Scheduling of work: Scheduling of work as assigned by the Chief Editor and Supervising Editor \u2013 work is evenly assigned between editors and suitable deadlines are awarded and complied with. Editors to work as a
\nteam in order to optimise productivity. Keep track of assessments received and completed, and update Planner docs.
\n\u2022Workflow efficiency: Manage own time effectively to ensure completion of allocated tasks and meeting of deadlines; communicate with team members to optimise efficiency.
\n\u2022Initiative shown in problem-solving. Problems communicated immediately.
\n\u2022Ensure daily output target is met.
\n\u2022Conduct detailed planning for own workload in order to meet allocated academic deadlines; configure assessments on SharePoint where required.
\n\u2022Update summative, formative and materials trackers as required upon receipt or completion of tasks.
\n\u2022Inform CE of capacity constraints or availability.<\/p>\n

\nEducation & Experience Requirements
\nMinimum Requirements
\n\u2022A recognised Bachelor\u2019s degree \u2013 specialising in language (English preferred)
\n\u2022At least five years\u2019 working experience in an editing role
\n\u2022Excellent skills in use of Word styles.
\n\u2022Outstanding knowledge of English language, grammar, syntax, semantics, spelling
\n\u2022Excellent editing skills
\n\u2022Total proficiency in use of the latest version of Microsoft Word, Excel and OneNote
\n\u2022Proven work experience in a learning materials development environment (specifically in Higher Education)
\n\u2022Excellent knowledge of use of Word templates and styles
\n\u2022Proven planning and organising skills.
\n\u2022Good knowledge of instructional design principles and elements.<\/p>\n

Recommended:<\/strong>
\n\u2022Experience and\/or qualifications in instructional design.
\n\u2022Knowledge of the Higher and Further Education quality frameworks in South Africa
\n\u2022Educational experience\/qualifications would be an advantage.<\/p>\n
