\nThe Developmental, Capable and Ethical State (DCES) research programme of the Human Sciences Research Council requires the services of a Freelance Research Editor to provide high quality editorial services for a military veteran life story manuscript to be published as a book. The candidate will be appointed to enhance and undertake both language and technical edits to the life-story manuscript.<\/p>\n
\nThe assignment of to be undertaken between 01 November 2021 to 31 December 2021<\/p>\n
\nThe scope of work and expectations of the editor will include the following:
\na.Enhance the manuscript by adding relevant content;
\nb.Copy edits and proof-read the report to ensure editorial quality;
\nc.Editorial services will include but is not limited to:
\n\u2022 Content editing and checking.
\n\u2022 Language editing \u2013 assess manuscript for linguistic quality (checking for grammar, syntax and consistent use of terminology and style)
\n\u2022 Technical editing \u2013 formatting ensures consistency with font, size, page number, table of content etc. and
\n\u2022 Proof reading \u2013 checking for typos, spelling, and formatting errors.
\nd. Liaise with military veteran and the PI to address any editorial amendments.
\ne. Special attention should be paid to the text to ensure that the information within the manuscript is clearly communicated.
\nf. The manuscript should be edited in terms of text cohesion, style and layout, language and referencing.
\ng. The final edited manuscript should not exceed 80 000 words.<\/p>\n
\nKey requirements:<\/strong>
\na.The candidate must have experience in academic writing on the history of the South African liberation struggle and in editing academic research reports with a minimum of 5 years\u2019 experience in proof reading and editing large scientific research reports and an academic qualification –
\nBA Degree in any of the following \u2013 History, Political Science, English, Communications, Journalism.
\nb.Must have experience in similar editorial work and should have excellent English writing skills.
\nc.The manuscript to be edited will be provided electronically and should be delivered in the same manner to HSRC.
\nd.The documents should be in MSWord and edited using track changes (a marked copy, with all corrections and comments showing, and a revised copy that has the corrections accepted and comments removed)
\ne.The candidate should demonstrate the ability to deliver within the agreed-upon timeframes.<\/p>\n
