Job Title: SAMPAN Coordinator <\/strong>
\nLocation:<\/strong> Newlands, Western Cape, South Africa

Job Summary::<\/strong>
\nThe SAMPAN Coordinator will be responsible for assisting in the establishment of the SAMPAN as well as assisting in the convening and logistics of various SAMPAN initiatives and outreach. This position will report directly to the SAMPAN Manager. The SAMPAN coordinator is required to work an average of 23 hours per week, the apportionment of these hours shall be determined in consultation with the SAMPAN Manager.<\/p>\n

The SAMPAN Coordinator will assist the SAMPAN Manager and will be responsible for the following actions:<\/strong>
\n1.Assist in the establishment of the SAMPAN Secretariat by:<\/strong>
\n\u2022Providing and assisting the SAMPAN Manager with administrative support for the project concept phase.
\n\u2022Coordinate as instructed SAMPAN activities and arrange meeting and workshop venues with associated logistics when required.
\n\u2022Assist in providing input and research in drafting the SAMPAN Terms of Reference (ToR).
\n\u2022Working with the SAMPAN Manager draw up the agenda for the MPA Forums and capacity building events and prepare them for distribution including assisting with the logistics.
\n\u2022Compile and maintain mailing lists and attendance registers for the annual MPA Forums and SAMPAN meetings and assist in recording all minutes and attendance at these events.
\n\u2022Schedule and organize regular meetings with the DEFF when requested.
\n\u2022Contribute to develop the SAMPAN work plan to prioritise training, task team meetings and various planned pilot studies.
\n\u2022Assist in the administration of establishing the SAMPAN working groups when needed, including contributing to the distribution of the working group ToRs.<\/p>\n

2.Contribute to improve overall MPA effectiveness and governance.<\/strong>
\n\u2022Provide scientific research data to support the SAMPAN Manager when data is required to support MPAs within the marine program.
\n\u2022Assist the MPA objectives study by providing input into developing the project draft methodology and conduct research when required to provide support for the objectives study.
\n\u2022identify venues, distribute agendas, attendance lists, mailing lists and minutes for the two planned project pilot sites.
\n\u2022Provide input and research, when necessary, in improving the current METT format.
\n\u2022Assist in the logistics and planning of the annual training workshops for MPA staff.
\n\u2022Give input into compiling a draft report based on interviews\/surveys (already conducted through the METT) with each MPA to establish a baseline of existing relationships between MAs and communities to flag problems.
\n\u2022Provide research data to explore co-management models at selected MPA pilot sites to make sure SAMPAN Manager is informed when engaging communities that they feel included<\/p>\n

3.Stakeholder engagement:<\/strong>
\n\u2022Inform relevant stakeholders as identified by the SAMPAN Manager of SAMPAN activities to ensure their participation.
\n\u2022Contact locally identified small-scale fishery co-operative chairs and community representatives to inform them of SAMPAN events and add them to the mailing lists of the MPA Forum as the Forum moves location each year, these respective communities will be invited.
\n\u2022Provide assistance and support to the SAMPAN Manager when stakeholders identify a community champion that can build community relationships with MAs.<\/p>\n

4.Administration:<\/strong>
\n\u2022Assist in Identifying funding opportunities and work with the WWF structures to ensure that regular funding proposals are completed when requested and submitted to ensure the project life span can be extended.
\n\u2022Contribute to fund-raising efforts to develop SAMPANS Programme work.
\n\u2022Provide general support to the SAMPAN Manager on all SAMPAN projects and proposed projects.
\n\u2022Conduct the administration for follow up surveys that will provide data for the project M&E.<\/p>\n

5.Communications:<\/strong>
\n\u2022Provide input when required on any MPA related queries, publications and\/or campaigns for the SAMPAN Program.
\n\u2022Provide additional technical support to the SAMPAN programme, this includes scientific input on project related activities, reports, assessments and publications.
\n\u2022Review as required any marine programme publications as instructed.
\n\u2022Contribute when required to the publication of reports and peer-reviewed papers.
\n\u2022Recording, producing and distributing minutes timeously after various SAMPAN engagements. Contribute to updating the MPA Forum website and improving communication tools to have a functional website and investigating the use of social media channels to distribute MPA information.
\n\u2022Keep abreast of emerging marine scientific knowledge, issues and policies relating to MPAs and marine conservation initiatives.
\n\u2022Where relevant, appropriate and in agreement with your manager, contribute to WWF Global Network marine working groups on developing position papers, input into the interrogation of the scientific data, and collaborate on guidelines for MPA related projects.
\n\u2022Provide input and research into the SAMPAN project M&E on a regular basis (annually).
\n\u2022Establish and maintain Data bases of persons within communities that have been involved in projects (e.g. BRUVs and other MPA projects) that will assist the SAMPAN Manager in encouraging them to speak (informal recordings) to other communities to share their experiences and understand the importance of MPAs and to change perceptions.<\/p>\n

Requirements:<\/strong>
\n\u20222 years\u2019 work experience with an applicable degree or diploma being an added advantage
\n\u2022Experience working in an NGO and marine environment with a passion for the ocean being an added advantage.
