\nDuties & Responsibilities:<\/strong>
\nPURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
\n\u00b7 Provide a support and maintenance function for student services; audio-visual services and information communication technology services for NWU users to support their business functions. The responsibilities includes:
\nTimely and effective processing and resolution of all audio-visual information technology and telecommunication incidents, problems and requests following agreed procedures
\nCoordinating the rapid and appropriate response for escalated higher-level problem resolution
\nProviding advice on both new and established systems
\nConducting trend analysis of series data to determine common occurrences and recurring issues
\nDetermining absolute cause of problems by either recreating the issues in a test environment or reviewing system design
\nProviding basic training for users when required
\nActing as liaison between users and information technology department on problem areas, managing client expectations
\nMay have supervisory responsibilities<\/p>\n
\n1. Service desk and incident management:<\/strong>
\nLog, analyse, investigate, escalate, monitor, track, resolve and close complex incidents, problems and requests reported by telephone, request system, e-mail or walk-in, within service level and escalate to responsible agent where applicable by applying the Incident Management Process
\nEscalate complex problems to appropriate support team and coordinate rapid resolution thereof
\nMonitor progress of escalated tickets to ensure resolution by assigned agent within service level
\nIdentify recurring incidents by conducting trend analysis
\nDetermine absolute cause of incidents by recreating the issues in test environment or reviewing system design<\/p>\n
\nAssist with the investigation and resolution of audio visual and IT infrastructure problems within service level and by applying applicable process
\nRe-install support and maintain audio visual and IT infrastructure as assigned by applying applicable process and ensuring agreed availability
\nBuild and cast images by applying applicable process and ensuring agreed availability
\nExecute audio visual and IT infrastructure replacement strategy as assigned by applying the applicable process in consultation with IT-ES\/IT-OI
\nExecute routine system checks as assigned
\nMonitor and report maintenance and support provided by approved contractors by applying applicable process, ensuring agreed availability, resolution within service level and adherence to Occupational Health and Safety Standards
\nProvide a standby service as assigned<\/p>\n
\nUpdate user on progress and status of ticket
\nProvide advice on IT policy, guidelines, procedures and systems
\nProvide basic training on audio visual and IT systems when required<\/p>\n
\nKeep relevant documents and systems up-to-date
\nContribute to the development \/ reviewing of procedures, processes and standards
\nLiaise with identified external suppliers on service requests as required
\nDo quality control by applying applicable process
\nRepresent IT-ES\/IT-OI on-site to inspect services provided by external parties
\nComply with general NWU responsibilities for staff<\/p>\n
\nParticipate in projects in assigned role ensuring successful completion of the project<\/p>\n
\nMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:<\/strong>
\n\u00b7 Diploma in Information Technology, Electronics or Applicable<\/p>\n
\n\u00b7 2 years\u2019 experience in PC hardware and software support and problem resolution
\n\u00b7 2 years\u2019 experience in network problem resolution and 1st line support
\n\u00b7 4 years\u2019 experience in soldering and use of power tools
\n\u00b7 4 years\u2019 experience working with cable and couplings
\n\u00b7 4 years\u2019 experience working with electronics components
\n\u00b7 4 years\u2019 experience working in TCP\/IP protocol, computers and its application<\/p>\n
\n\u00b7 Certificate in Multimedia, Electronics or Industrial Electronics
\n\u00b7 IT Certificates (A , N , ITIL)
\n\u00b7 2 years management of contractors<\/p>\n
\n\u00b7 Knowledge:<\/strong>
\nMaintain and support IT infrastructure (PC Hardware, Networks, Internet, standard office applications)
\nIT Service Management and business \/ IT relation awareness
\nUse IT Service Management tools and technologies
\nExperience in the use of PC imaging solutions
\nExperience in the use of MS products, email and internet services
\nHave a valid driver’s license with own transportation cell phone (after hours standby)
\nExpertise of sound systems, amplifiers, communication, TV distribution systems (analogue and digital), analogue and digital intruder alarm systems, access control systems
\nExpertise in field of computer hardware, software and operating systems
\nKnowledge of MS Office, email and internet
\nTrained in health safety regarding work standards, working on heights and electronic work environment

\n Skills:<\/strong>
\nHave a valid and applicable RSA driver’s license
\nExpertise in how to use electronic measuring instruments and calibration tools
\nExperience in use of different cable types and cable connector type
\nExperience in working with soldering iron and power tools<\/p>\n
