Department: Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering (Potchefstroom campus, NWU)<\/p>\n
Various projects exist within the research scheme. Candidates can choose one of the following topics for his\/her PhD degree project:
\n1) Condition monitoring of industrial cables and power cables
\n2) Efficiency optimisation of electrostatic precipitators (ESPs)
\n3) Energy related research (energy efficiency, energy management and control)
\n4) Electrical machines, power transformers and energy
\n5) Feed-in tariff (grid-tie) power research – to feed electricity back into the grid<\/p>\n
The value of the PhD bursary will be approximately R 78 500 (ZAR \u2013 South African currency) per annum. Additional bursaries may however be applied for. Funding is available for running and equipment (project) costs.<\/p>\n
Eligibility:
\n\u2022 A Master\u2019s degree in Electrical, Electronic or Computer Engineering from a reputable university is mandatory.
\n\u2022 Candidate must have achieved an average of at least 60% during the preceding master\u2019s degree.
\n\u2022 Candidates must be under 40 years of age.
\n\u2022 Candidates should be fluent in English.
\n\u2022 Candidates should have an excellent academic record and research potential.
\n\u2022 The scheme is open to nationals of all countries.<\/p>\n
The closing date for applications is 9 November 2012. Candidates are however encouraged to apply as early as possible. The study will commence January 2013. The final decision resides with the study leader and the department of research support.<\/p>\n
