Job Summary:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will join the Port and Coastal Modelling team and will undertake modelling activities to inform Engineering and Environmental Design of Coastal Infrastructure. This will include activities such as:
—Environmental data analyses
—Numerical modelling and analysis of coastal processes, specifically
—Waves (including infra-gravity waves)
—Currents
—Water Quality, including evolution of fine sediment plumes
—Near-field and far-field dilution and dispersion of effluent discharges
—Sediment transport and sea-bed morphology
—Shoreline change
—Assist in preparation of proposals for projects related to these fields
—Compile reports on numerical modelling tasks

Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCED:
—Degree in Applied Mathematics, Physical Oceanography (preferred minimum BSc Honours) with coastal modelling experience, or Qualification in Civil Engineering with coastal modelling experience (B Eng / BSc Eng)
—Up to 4 years coastal modelling experience
—Proficient in programming with MATLAB / PYTHON required, while a proficiency in VBA will be beneficial
—Solid mathematical background, also a good judgment on matters and assumptions within the field of modelling
KEY COMPETENCIES AND GENERIC SKILLS:
—Ability to work independently on own initiative as well as part of a team
—Ability to manage and plan his/her own time and workload to meet deadlines according to appropriate standards
—Ability to work effectively and focused on delivery
—Passion and ability in analysis and modelling of coastal physical processes (experience in computational fluid dynamics modelling may be beneficial)
—Attention to detail
—Good communication skills
—Good technical report writing skills with ability to explain technical work clearly
—Overall responsibility, accountability, ethical and effective representation of WSP to internal and external clients
