Job Title: Programme Delivery Lead

Job Summary:
The Programme Delivery Lead holds primary responsibility for the operational planning, resourcing, capacitation, management, and execution of project portfolios (including Food Systems, Freshwater, Climate, Marine, Land & Biodiversity Stewardship, Urban Futures and Wildlife).

Its principal role is to manage all related projects and activities that contribute to the achievement of WWF’s 2025 outcome targets are effectively operationalised: i.e. planned, resourced, and executed.

The Programme Delivery Lead reports directly to the Head of Programme and has to work in close collaboration with the Programme Impact Lead.

General:
1.Take primary responsibility for the operational functioning and viability of WWF’s project portfolio, and in service of the achievement of the strategic outcomes of the organisation.
2.Oversee the operational management, determining in consultation with the Impact Lead who and what should be deployed to a project, ensuring the proper functioning of all projects and activities within the Programme in line with set Organisational policies, procedures and delegated authority.
3.Ensure the Environmental and Social Safeguards Framework (ESSF) is implemented by project portfolios including, risk management and mitigation as well as compliance and reporting commitments on behalf of the organization.
4.Lead and oversee capacity planning of enabling support functions (including coordination, administration, finance, NetSuite, etc.), and resource requirements of new projects.
5.Work with those in charge, to ensure that NetSuite serves the needs of the Programme – this will involve ensuring inputs from the Programme side and Outputs from NetSuite that are directly “fit for purpose”.
6.Design and manage reporting and alignment processes for the Programme, and attendant projects.
7.Enable productivity by increasing the use of advanced, integrated technologies in project delivery and performance management.
8.Enable and oversee senior managers of project portfolios to productively engage with and support the organizational performance system (i.e. M&E).
9.Lead and/ or convene aspects of the project governance related to resource planning (including the early inclusion and involvement of the enabling functions), resource assessment and allocation, and contracting of projects.

Staff management:
10.Jointly with the Programme Impact Lead, assess and manage the performance of the Senior Managers responsible for project portfolios, with specific responsibility for their performance on administration and operations.
11.Deploy and manage staff in support of the Programme delivery (e.g. administrative, finance and operational staff).
12.Ensure appropriate capability building through staff development, re-skilling or up-skilling, mentorship and transformation of the project portfolio staff.
Other:
13.Perform further duties as specified by the Head of Programme, including:
•Manage knowledge sharing, learning and development within the unit.
•Undertake pre-agreed administrative and management tasks as required by the organization.

Education And Experience Requirement:
The Programme Delivery Lead should be highly organized, focused, logical, leads teams/ people by example, pays attention to detail, focuses on building functioning and efficient management systems, empathetic, inspirational, and with a commitment to excellence.

•An advanced qualification in environmental science, or a suitably related discipline, and/ or an exceptional track record and experience of operational delivery
•At least 10 years of experience in managing staff and overseeing operational responsibilities of a team comprising of both professional and administrative staff members
•Experience with project monitoring and evaluation, and financial systems
•A demonstrated understanding of operational challenges faced by senior managers is critical
•A good understanding of the broad range of work undertaken by WWF and knowledge of the relevant institutional landscape in South Africa.
•Strong leadership and management skills
•Evidence of working effectively within teams, building, and participating in them (either as a leader or as team member), and drawing the best out of people
•Strong coordination and administrative management capabilities
•A demonstrated ability to work independently and without daily supervision and guidance
•Excellent communication skills: both written and verbal
