The Bulungula Incubator (BI) is a rural development not-for-profit organization, based on the Wild Coast of the Eastern Cape, in the former Transkei. Our programmes are concentrated into three focus areas: Education, Sustainable Livelihoods, and Health and Nutrition. Position Objective

The Health Programme is looking for suitably qualified and dynamic individuals to be part of the Health Team.

Performance Areas and Activities

Bulungula Incubator

Duties and Responsibilities

Wellness Wagon (Primary Schools Mobile Clinic Services) 2 weeks in Xhora Mouth and 2 weeks in Coffee bay

  • The Wellness Wagon services include immunization, deworming, vitamin supplements and general clinic services
  • Visit relevant schools and see the learners according to the agreement of the school and issue referrals when necessary and follow-up
  • Prepare the reports and statistics of the two weeks in the two areas

Assist in the outreaches on Wednesday and conduct own outreach as needed

  • See all patients and administer medication and do referrals when necessary

Family planning Education and Implementation/ Service at Nqileni health point every Thursday

  • Spend time with each client doing education and how the family planning method works

Mentoring and Support of  Home Based Carers (HBCs)

  • Identify training needs for  HBCs and all Health Programme staff and training thereof by you or service provider
  • In conjunction with the Health Programme Manager and her assistant, hold meetings with the HBCs

Home visits in all 4 villages we operate from, namely Nqileni, Tshezi, Folokhwe, and Mgojweni

  • Identify health issues that cause concern and advocate thereof

Distribution of prenatal vitamins to pregnant women

Network with people that can add value to our programme e.g. other NGOs and Government departments

In conjunction with the Health Programme Manager or / and any relevant person from BI, attend health meetings with different stakeholders

Role Requirements

  • Passion for rural development work is essential
  • Diploma in Nursing including General Nurse, Psychiatry, Community nursing and Midwifery is required
  • Strong desire to improve rural health
  • Proven ability to relate to children and motivate them
  • Knowledge and understanding of the South African Health Policies
  • Ability to communicate in IsiXhosa
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to succeed in challenging environments and problem – solving
  • Willingness to live in a remote rural village as a community member
  • Willingness to mentor and train others

Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and level of experience.
