Background: The International Training and Education Centre for Health (I-TECH) is a United States of America federally-funded project which supports the development of HIV/AIDS care and treatment training initiatives in 25 developing countries acutely impacted by the global AIDS epidemic. I-TECH is an initiative of the University of Washington Schools of Medicine and Public Health & Community Medicine. Its Central Office is headquartered in Seattle, Washington and it currently supports ten international offices, including one in Pretoria, South Africa.

Job Title: Clinical Trainer [5 Positions]
Position Reference: CT005
Supervisor: Program Manager
Department: Programs (integrated Care and People Development Program)
Location: Seconded to the Regional Training Centres (North West, Mpumalanga, Gauteng and Limpopo)
Position Duration: Fixed Term Contract (October 2018 – September 2019)

Brief Summary of Position: 

Under the direct supervision of the RTC Manager, the Clinical Trainer will:

  • Conduct and support Community Health Worker (CHW) Master Training and Outreach Team Leader (OTL) Training including the Work Integrated Learning.
  • Conduct Adult Primary Care (APC) Master Training and APC Updates in priority districts
  • Conduct priority trainings, including IMCI
  • Facilitate short-course training related to TB/HIV and  non-communicable diseases, as needed
  • Identify clinician knowledge and skill gaps
  • Implementation of learning and development activities
  • Develop clinical training materials
  • Provide mentoring support in collaboration with the Department of Health and the District Support Teams.
  • Support implementation of operational research studies.
  • Demonstrate clinical knowledge and practice
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current health policy priorities (NIMART, WBOT, and Adherence Guidelines.

Required: 

  • Nursing degree/diploma, or related clinical field and three years working experience in HIV, TB, IMCI, non-communicable diseases, or Care and Treatment.
  • Primary Health Care clinical experience
  • Capacity building and/or health worker training experience in resource-limited settings
  • Exceptional facilitation skills
  • Familiarity with adult participatory methodologies
  • Ability to synthesize complex clinical content and present it in a clear, logical, appropriate format for a range of target audiences.
  • Strong organizational, electronic file management and computer skills including MS Office, Power Point, and Excel.

Desired: 

  • Adult Primary Care Master Trainer
  • Nursing Education qualification
  • Knowledge or experience in instructional design or monitoring and evaluation
  • Experience working with the Department of Health.
  • Fluency in one or more national South African languages

Conditions of Employment: These positions will be seconded to the Regional Training Centres in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and the North West Provinces, South Africa. Candidate must be available and willing to travel within South Africa up to 80% of the time. Complex deliverables on short timelines may require work in excess of allocable time.
