The South African Breastmilk Reserve is a nonprofit organisation that came to life in 2003 and today is the largest milk-bank banking partner of the South Africa Department of Health and Netcare, associated with 44 milk banks that supply anything from 75 to 100 hospitals around the country, in a year.

Job Title: Johannesburg

The position is available immediately.

The purpose of the position is to ensure that milkbanks and collection corners are managed effectively, that they are operating in line with the SABR mission, and that the training material used nationally is compliant to regulations and up to date.

Responsibilities:

  • Milkbank management, quality assurance and compliance with regulations for the processing of donated breastmilk
  • Donor and recipient information management and compliance with legislation
  • Ensure compliance in the milkbanks with policies, procedures and quality standards in line with the Human Tissues Act of 1994 and all relevant health, safety and environment standards
  • Manage all administrative processes and record-keeping systems
  • Review and continually improve the operational performance against identified performance metrics, quality assurance standards and risk management parameters
  • Conduct world-wide bench-marking exercises of the SABR Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)
  • Research stimulating, educational and advocacy press release material and assisting with press release content thereof
  • Act as ambassador and sourcing, screening and signing up of donor
  • Contribute to the development of a communication and media strategy, writing newsletters and seeking opportunities for media liaison and engagement
  • Participate in fundraising activities and assisting with writing funding proposals
  • Attend meetings with stakeholders and representing the Organisation at public events

Requirements:

  • Qualification in a medical and management field
  • Have management and research experience
  • Five years’ general management experience in a similar field
  • Have a valid Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) registration preferably as a registered lactation consultant
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills
  • High personal and ethical standards
  • Computer skills and proficient in (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Access)
  • Must have a car and be willing to travel extensively
  • Flexible and available to respond to emergency requests at short notice
  • Passionate about saving lives of the vulnerable
  • High energy levels and a sense of humour
