De Beers Group: SHE Specialist – Incidents & Risk

Description of the job:

The incumbent will support the Lead SHE DBCM and site based Safety, Hygiene and Environmental specialists to achieve Zero Harm and No Repeats. The successful candidate will play a key role in the standardisation of key components of DBCM’s SHE Learning From Incidents and SHE Risk Management Programs, as well as core elements of DBCM’s SHE management systems relating thereto.

 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

• Coordinate and where relevant, develop processes and procedures to ensure that:
  • DBCM’s LFI objectives are met with regard to incident reporting, investigations, close-out and the transferring of knowledge gained.
  • Repeat incidents are prevented.
• Assist DBCM operations with the roll-out of their LFI programs.
• Provide an oversight in terms of incident investigation capacity within DBCM.
• Provide DBCM training leads with guidance in respect of incident investigation training.
• Provide assurance and support to DBCM’s SHE function (audits/ inspections) focusing on DBCM SHE Learning From Incidents process.
• Conduct incident investigations on selected incidents and coordinate follow-up/preventative actions as required to ensure that incident learnings are transferred across DBCM operations.
• Ensure that the learnings from the Anglo American Incident IQ, as applicable, are transferred to DBCM operations.
• Coordinate and where relevant, develop processes and procedures to ensure that:
  • DBCM’s SHE objectives with regard to the management of SHE risks are met.
  • SHE baseline risk registers across DBCM are aligned.
  • Critical controls across DBCM are aligned.
• Conduct SHE audits and inspections on the integrity of the LFI and risk management program.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of the applicable SHE improvement plans (risk focus) and strategy, including training and awareness, the identification of opportunities and threats.
• Provide specialist technical support to DBCM’s SHE Specialists as required in support of the roll-out of DBCM’s SHE risk management requirements.

 

SKILLS/ COMPETENCIES:      

• Independent, proactive strategic thinker with strong problem solving and decision-making skills.
• Sound knowledge of Safety and Environmental legislation, De Beers safety standards, ISO14001, OHSAS 18001 requirements, Behaviour Based Safety principles, Anglo Safety Risk Management Program, risk assessment methodologies and Anglo Fatal Risk Standards.
• Strong analytical and presentation skills.
• Sound knowledge and application of SHE principles and ISO14001/ OHSAS18001 management systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
• Auditors’ course in ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and/or OHSAS 18001 would be advantageous.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Degree in Safety and/ or related qualification.
• Formal training in ICAM and/ or a related methodology such as RCAT/ TapRoot.
• A recognised qualification in SHE Risk Management would be advantageous.
• 5 years working experience within the SHE discipline.
• 5 years working experience in incident investigations and SHE risk management.
• Proficient in OHSAS18001.
