Stewart Scott International (SSI) was founded in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1922. Registered as Stewart Scott (Pty) Ltd and trading as Stewart Scott International (SSI), the company owes its name to its far-sighted founding fathers – George Stewart, a specialist in water cycle and municipal services projects and Frederick Scott, whose forté was transport and structural design.

An innovator from its early years, SSI was one of the very first independent consulting engineering companies in Southern Africa and later, also one of the first to be established as an empowerment company.

The company’s name changed to SSI, a DHV company, in September 2006 after the DHV Group became the majority shareholder.

A vacancy exists in the Msunduzi office (Pietermaritzburg) for a Senior Civil Engineering Draughtsperson / Detailer (Water) to commence duties as soon as possible.

Main Responsibilities

Detailing of reinforced concrete structures and pipe work relating to water and waste water infrastructure from verbal descriptions / rough sketches

Oversee indexing, filing and issuing of plans in accordance with existing procedures

Preparation of technical drawings, final drawings and schedule of quantities; with attention to drawing layouts and developing details

Document handling in accordance with existing procedures

Client interaction

Coaching of junior drawing office and other technical staff

Minimum Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Matric with at least six years experience in an engineering environment

Ability to work independently in accordance with a quality system and according to client needs and within a budget

Familiar with general drawing office procedures

A draughting certificate / diploma would be an advantage

Preparation of drawings using AutoCad, Pipemaker and ModelMaker

Computer literate in Excel, Word, MS Project and Bill

Behavioural Competencies

Ability to handle pressure and delivery of targets; using own initiative

Ability to work both independently and as a team player

Good interpersonal and organisational skills

Good personal time management
