Job Title: Technical Director – Parktown

Job Summary:
Work Description: The Technical DirectorTB is responsible for providing leadership on TB-related projects at Aurum SA as well as guidance and expertise on best programmatic and operational practice on TB for other projects within Aurum. The technical director is expected to be the point person for TB expertise within Aurum SA and manage and lead all programmatic projects related to TB within the organization

Technical Work Responsibilities:
Provide strategic leadership, technical and managerial direction for the successful implementation of projects and/or programmes
Provide technical advice on TB programme management, organizational development, pre-service medical education, in-service training, capacity building and collaboration between NDOH and other partners
Work closely with and supervise project staff, and ensuring the strategic and functional integration of all technical areas
Strong collaboration with donors, government counterparts, local organizations, and programme partners
Support the M&E Manager in monitoring and evaluation and provision of technical assistance to implementing partners
Ensure value for money approach to programme and / or project implementation
Coordinate with the Finance and Operations Manager to oversee streamlined operational and financial processes and capacity building to implementing partners where needed
Supervise project implementation with support of health staff showcasing innovative strategies within implementation
Support multiple work teams to delivering high quality outputs
Monitor project work flow implementation to deliver on project targets
Undertake supervisory visits to project implementation sites to review project implementation and provide technical support for implementation
Write technical reports on project implementation for all donors and stakeholders
Maintain solid understanding of the international development health industry and performance analytics
Continuously scope out and identify weak areas of public health interventions within the health systems and to design mitigations for these
Ensure timely and quality completion of all programme technical deliverables and reports in accordance with donor guidelines
Oversee preparation of reports by subordinates to comply with NDOH reporting requirements where necessary
Review and consolidate reports from different stakeholders integrating them as necessary to elaborate programme and project technical and progress reports according to donor requirements and timetables
Develop research proposals to contribute to science and development
Review programme and project outputs and outcomes to be developed into scientific papers for dissemination at meetings and conferences
Undertake capacity development of health system staff in research and scientific work
Attend meetings of technical working groups to provide assistance and support to country public health delivery
Conduct trainings and capacity building for health sector staff to improve service delivery
Implement quality improvement interventions with support of the health system for improved service delivery

Requirements:
Education:
Advanced Health sciences degree
Demonstrable thorough understanding of the SA Department of Health National,district and provincial health system, policies and guidelines
Demonstrable knowledge of all aspects of TB management
Substantial progressive health systems strengthening experience at management level

Advantageous:
Medical doctor
Masters’ degree or Doctoral degree in Public Health
Postgraduate degree or diploma in Health Management
Postgraduate degree or diploma in HIV and/or TB Management

Experience:
At least 7 years’ experience in clinical/programmatic management of TB
At least 5 years’ experience in the field of TB Project Management in a Non-Governmental setting
At least 2 years’ experience in the Department of Health/Public Health sector

Requirements:
SA Citizen or valid work permit to work in South Africa
Advanced computer skills
Driver’s license
Own car
Minimal/Moderate/Excessive overnight travel (up to 30%) by land or air if required
Willing to work overtime
