Job Title: MINING UNIT OPERATOR

Job Summary:
Operate mining equipment known as a Hydraulic Sand Flinger (HSF) remotely for deposition in tailings dams to ensure the achievement of operational goals.

Safety & Risk Management:

Adhere to all Safety procedures and legislation

Execute Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) correctly

Ensure that the necessary risk assessments and action plans are compiled, maintained and reviewed where needed

Conduct safety talks with the team on site on a day-to-day basis

Make use of pre-use checklists for all equipment and machinery

Operate the Hydraulic Sand Flinger (HSF) remotely:

Responsible use of resources allocated by the Project Manager

Refuelling and basic preventative maintenance of the HSF Unit

Operate the HSF Unit effectively at all times

Use of appropriate operating techniques for all equipment and machinery

Assist FA in achieving the operating targets, which includes measured layering of material

Execution of the hydraulic deposition plan

Regular inspections of the deposition area

Ensure correct positioning of the HSF Unit

Ensure general safekeeping of the HSF

Communication:

Radio communication with the pump station

Initiate effective communication with the Project Manager

Record Keeping:

Keep all records as per site requirements (Operational as well as safety related)
Requirements

EDUCATIONS:

Qualification in Instrument Electrical Technician, Industrial Electrical or Industrial Mechanical Technician

EXPERIENCE:

2 Years working in the mining industry (Tailings specific)

Previous experience operating hydraulic repulping equipment is required

Mechanical/electrical (220v & 12v) experience (Advantageous)

SKILLS, QUALITIES AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Must be able to speak, read and write in Spanish as well as English

Effective communication skills

Basic administrative skills

Annually validate the Hydraulic Sand Flinger (HSF) operator license for hydraulic deposition in tailings dams (training provided)

Effective operating of the Control Room (training provided)

Medically Fit

Computer Literate

Valid Driver’s License

Perform detailed mini-risk assessments, be able to identify hazards, risks and mitigation for control
