Job Title: Ports and Coastal Modeller
Location: Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

KEY ROLE:
Port & Coastal Modeller
The successful candidate will join the Port and Coastal Modelling team and operate in activities such as:
•Hydrodynamic modelling, including numerical modelling and analyses of waves (including infra-gravity waves)
•Wave penetration and harbour resonance studies.
•Moored ship motions studies and downtime assessment
•Entrance channel depth assessment and design
•Ship manoeuvring simulations studies to aid the design of navigation channels, aids to navigation and tug requirements and operational requirements
•Environmental data analyses
•Undertake far-field and near-field dilution and dispersion modelling studies
•Assist in preparation of proposals for projects related to these fields
•Compile reports on numerical modelling tasks

•Role model standards for SHEQ performance and behaviour consistent with the company’s health, safety, environmental and quality vision and policies by influencing those around you
•Contributing to the identification of SHEQ risks and driving processes to achieve Zero Harm
•Embracing, displaying and promoting the company values and ensuring a safe working environment is maintained at all times
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
•Post-graduate qualification in Applied Mathematics, Coastal/Port Engineering, or related field
•2 – 6 years’ relevant post-graduate work experience
•Knowledge and experience in applying port and coastal modelling software packages (Required):
—Delft3D (WAVE; FLOW; and SURFBEAT)
—XBeach (including non-hydrostatic module)
—Mike21 BW (knowledge of Mike21 MA would be beneficial)
—Simflex Navigator
•Knowledge and experience in modelling and analyses ship hydrodynamics, ship stability, dynamic mooring and downtime analyses
•Proficient in programming with MATLAB / PYTHON
•Solid mathematical background, also a good judgment on matters and assumptions within the field of modelling
•Knowledge and experience in physical modelling of wave processes would be advantageous

•Ability to work independently on own initiative as well as part of a team
•Ability to manage and plan his/her own time and workload to meet deadlines according to appropriate standards
•Ability to work effectively and focused on delivery
•Attention to detail
•Good communication skills
•Very good technical report writing skills with the ability to explain technical work clearly
•Overall responsibility, accountability, ethical and effective representation of WSP to internal and external clients
