Botswana Ash (Pty) Ltd is a Soda Ash and Salt producing Company situated on the Sua Pan in Botswana, approximately 180 km by tarred road northwest of Francistown. The Company employs over 450 employees of which close to 300 are unionised. Employees and their families live in Sowa Town, about 20 km east of the factory. The town boasts excellent English medium pre-primary, primary and secondary schools as well as government run primary and junior secondary schools. In addition, there is a company run private clinic for Botash employees at the factory as well as a private clinic and a government run clinic at the township. Job Title: Materials Manager
Location: Sowa Town, Central, Botswana

Job Summary:
Reporting to the General Manager Finance, the role is responsible for overseeing the Materials Section – managing and coordinating the functions of Inventory, Purchasing & Procurement, Operations and Standards in respect of materials and related services to agreed levels at minimum investment and optimal operational costs to Botswana Ash.

Key Performance Areas:
1.Prepares, manages and implements section budget by controlling and approving relevant costs.
2.Reviews purchasing and materials policies to reflect changes in technology and techniques, formulates purchasing strategies, recommends for authorisation new contracts, renewal of expired contracts and recommends, monitors adherence to purchasing policies and monitors supplier performance.
3.Reviews stock investments monthly against annual plan and decides on corrective action, investigates surplus stock and plans ways of reduction / disposal to achieve optimum stockholding.
4.Promotes good receiving and distribution practices by formulating relevant policies and procedures and ensuring adherence as well as ensuring efficient resource utilisation including handling equipment.
5.Manages and supervises subordinates in the section to derive maximum output from them.
6.Monitors standards function to ensure that stores catalogue, records and mine standards are maintained in accordance with the principles of standardization.
7.Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by implementing, maintaining and aligning company policies that adhere to environmental, health and safety regulations.
8.Management of contracts made with customers, vendors, partners, or employees.

Requirements:
Education:
•Degree in Materials Management/Supply Chain Management or other related discipline.

Experience:
•15 Years in management of Materials, 5 of which must be at a managerial level.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Power Point.
